Continue ReadingI round out my Adidas 3SSB coverage by reviewing the top players I watched from California and Arizona. I would argue the best overall underclassmen talent comes in this group with 3 of the 5 players being sophomores playing up a level. The skillsets here are impressive as these are some of the best young players I got to see throughout the weekend.
Andrej Stojakovic Andrej Stojakovic 6'6" | SG Jesuit | 2023 State #19 Nation CA-N 6’7 SG (2023) Compton Magic (Jesuit)
Stojakovic impressed me with his ability to shoot the basketball in Indianapolis. The senior wing has great size for a SG, but doesn’t have near as much athleticism as others. He is very much a catch-and-shoot player, but he sure can make those shots. Found some success around the rim additionally and had just enough acceleration to get to the bucket in dribble drive situations.
Koa Peat Koa Peat 6'8" | PF Perry | 2025 State #6 Nation AZ 6’8 SF (2025) Compton Magic (Perry)
What’s most impressive about Peat is he is playing up TWO age levels with Compton Magic 17U. The 6’8 sophomore-to-be is the lone Arizona prospect but he might be the best overall prospect on the list. Incredible frame for a sophomore and looks physically filled in. Very broad shoulders and great body control around the rim. Seemed to finish multiple shots through traffic with his body and skillset. This is a player I’m sure HM programs will be monitoring as he develops.
Ryan Mpouli 6’3 SG (2024) Dream Vision (Balboa)
Dream Vision had a good weekend going 3-1 in Indy and Mpouli played a big role in that success. His handle and acceleration is impressive and almost elite. First step is lethal and extremely fast. I’d like to see what he can do in terms of distributing the ball, but with more development he can add this to his game.
Solo Bailey 6’3 SG (2025) Compton Magic (Crossroads)
Bailey played up a level for Compton Magic 16U and was extremely impressive even in a losing effort for Compton. Bailey has great athleticism for a sophomore and utilized and his speed to create some interesting opportunities around the rim. Lefty but can attack with either hands, Bailey plays with a competitive spirit that I liked seeing even when they were down big. Bailey could be a player programs put on their radars as he grows older.
Kade Bonam 6’7 SF (2025) Compton Magic (St. John Bosco)
Bonam had some maturity to his game in terms of finishing big shots. He, like teammate Solo Bailey, was playing up a level on the 16U Compton Magic team. Bonam’s body control might have been the most impressive as he made shots even when he took contact on the way up. Elite finisher with even more upside should be stretch his game out more beyond the paint.
