From COVID-19 canceling spring and summer club sessions to delaying an entire high school season and causing some game cancellations, we were finally able to get a season that allowed us to get a complete look at how the 2022 class stacks up which leads to our most recent updated rankings for the senior class.
In this piece we take a look at some of the biggest stock raisers who have been making their case to move up in the rankings over the last couple of years and were able to reap the benefits of their hard work.
Quinton Webb Quinton Webb 6'7" | PF Etiwanda | 2022 State CA-S , Etiwanda – Webb didn’t make a huge jump from the previous update to the new update, but going from No. 17 to No. 11 is a move up regardless of how many spots it is. The 6-foot-7 forward came into his own as a defensive player while playing his junior and senior seasons at Etiwanda, which helped bump his recruitment into a commitment to New Mexico. Offensively, Webb is a big time finisher in transition and around the basket due to his leaping ability. He event flashed some touch out to 17-feet and to the three-point line on face-up catch-and-shoot touches.
Otto Landrum Otto Landrum 6'8" | PF Torrey Pines | 2022 State CA-S , Torrey Pines – Landrum cemented himself as San Diego’s top senior class player with a handful of big time performances and a double-double per-night type of impact. The Boston University bound forward/center was the anchor for Torrey Pines’ offensive and defensive schemes and the Falcons went as far as Landrum could carry them.
Myles Che Myles Che 6'3" | PG Fairmont Prep | 2022 State CA-S , Fairmont Prep – Che emerged as one of the top true point guards in all of Southern California with his ability to control the pace and tempo of a game, zip passes to open teammates in the open court and drive-and-kick settings, and his understanding of what his team needed him to do to win a basketball game. Che, still an unsigned senior, has plenty of point guard tools that could help a program at the next level.
Malachi Murrell Malachi Murrell 6'4" | SF La Quinta | 2022 State CA-S , La Quinta – The reason why Murrell has risen up the rankings board is a combination of his versatility and untapped upside that exists within his game. The 6-foot-4 wing averaged 23.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per game while playing multiple positions and guarding the opposing team’s best player. Murrell is signed with Cal Poly Pomona and his tough, gritty style of play will fit in nicely with how the Broncos operate.
Rob Diaz III Rob Diaz III 6'1" | SG JSerra | 2022 State CA-S , JSerra – Diaz put together one of the best scoring runs of recent memory as his playoff outbursts helped carry the Lions into the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game and into the State Division 1 second round. The smooth lefty scorer connected on three-point shots at a high clip and improved his off-the-bounce game to the point where he could get an isolation bucket off the bounce at any moment.
