Postseason selection time!

Today, my picks bring me to Miami-Dade County. The 305 featured a champion in 7A Miami Columbus. The Explorers edged Dr. Phillips 45-44 to claim their first state championship. Riviera Prep made it to the 3A state championship before falling 67-66 to Florida State University High School. Also credit Miami Northwestern for going 17-4 overall under head coach Melvin Randall. Mater Lakes Academy also went 22-8 overall under head coach Eric Rodriguez. The Bears are a young team I like in the future if they stick together.

Let’s dive into the picks...

MVP: [player_tooltip player_id="1301714" first="Cameron" last="Boozer"]- Miami Columbus

2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1301714" first="Cameron" last="Boozer"] had two huge games in the state tournament. In the Class 7A state semifinals, the 6-foot-8 power forward had 18 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks against Lake Worth. In the state final, Boozer had 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Dr. Phillips. Miami Columbus went 29-2 behind his 19 points, 11.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 60 percent from the floor. Overall, Boozer had 28 double-doubles. Against Miami High, he had a triple-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks. Simply dominant.

[player_tooltip player_id="1301715" first="Cayden" last="Boozer"] - Miami Columbus

[player_tooltip player_id="1301715" first="Cayden" last="Boozer"] is another reason why Miami Columbus went 29-2 overall and closed out the season with 12-straight victories. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 17 points, 5.5 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 59 percent from the field. Boozer scored 20 or more points in eight contests and recorded three double-doubles. In one matchup against Florida Christian, he had 23 points, ten assists and four steals. Boozer posted a season-high 26 points and collected nine boards against Miami High. Both Cayden and Cameron are the sons of former Duke standout and NBA player Carlos Boozer. It appears the twins are already two of the top players in the entire country.

[player_tooltip player_id="814913" first="Esteban" last="Lluberes"] - Riviera Prep

The Bulldogs finished 24-8 overall and went to the Class 3A final behind the identity of 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814913" first="Esteban" last="Lluberes"]. The tough-minded point guard averaged a team-high 18.3 points, 4.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Against Westminster Academy, Lluberes booked his trip to Lakeland after scoring 24 points and knocking down four 3-pointers. I thought this kid displayed a ton of heart and leadership late in games for Riviera Prep. He is committed to Lynn University.

[player_tooltip player_id="814912" first="Jimel" last="Lane"] - Miami Palmetto

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814912" first="Jimel" last="Lane"] has been a consistent offensive force across South Florida. The 6-foot-7 guard/forward averaged 24.4 points and ten boards while shooting 51 percent from the field. Moreover, Lane went 58-of-156 (37 percent) from deep. His 14 double-doubles helped Miami Palmetto finish with a 20-9 overall record. In addition, Lane dropped 30 or more points in four games. Against Miami Killian, he scored a season-high 38 points. In another matchup against Archbishop McCarthy, Lane had 35 points and knocked down a season-best seven 3-pointers.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055745" first="Marcus" last="Allen"] - Miami Norland

Sophomore sensation [player_tooltip player_id="1055745" first="Marcus" last="Allen"] rounds out my picks for Miami-Dade County. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 18.2 points and 7.7 boards per game for Miami Norland. Allen scored 27 points twice against Miami Columbus and once Riviera Prep while shooting a combined 26-of-45 (58 percent) from the field. He also recorded seven double-doubles. He holds offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State and Miami.
