The 2022 PIAA State Tournament trophies have been handed out and the pics have all been posted on Instagram, so it is time for Part III in our series that recognizes prospects who played extraordinarily well during states.
Today we look at the Class of 2024.
Below is a review of six 2024 prospects who contributed heavily to their team’s success during the PIAA state tournaments.

PA
– 6’2” / Archbishop Wood / Philly Revolution / Shooting Guard: Archbishop Wood’s journey to 6A state title only bolstered Bethea’s reputation as one of the top three-point snipers in the region. Across Wood’s five state tourney games Bethea shot 71.4% (20/28) from deep. In the quarterfinals against North Hills, he drained 11-of-12 threes and totaled 37 points overall. That effort will go down in PIAA lore as the greatest display of shooting ever. Bethea averaged 19.6 ppg. and knocked home 2 or more three balls in every 6A contest. Bethea holds offers from Temple and Robert Morris. However, after his showing in the state tourney, more offers are undoubtedly on the way.

– 6’2” / Archbishop Carroll / Team Final EYBL / Como Guard: In 2021-22 Hipps had one hell of a sophomore campaign. In the regular season he was good for 19 ppg., shot 40% on threes and was a 2nd Team All-PCL selection. Well, during the 4A state tourney this extremely versatile backcourt prospect took it to another level, averaging 22 points per night and hitting threes at a 47% clip. While the 3-point shot is his preferred method of scoring, Hipps also excels at getting to the rim in transition or the half-court. His elevated level of play in the post season helped Carroll make a run to the 4A semifinals. Hipps personal state tournament highlights included 31 points (4 threes) in a win over Berks Catholic and another 31 points (6 threes) in Carroll’s defeat of Athens Area.
Khaafiq Myers

Myers

Neumann-Goretti | 2024
State
PA
– 5’11” / Neumann-Goretti / BW Elite / Combo Guard: Myers is a speedy, high energy backcourt prospect who posted a strong 2021-22 season in the PCL — 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4 assists per contest. Myers cans score in a variety of ways, but he is especially adept at using his quickness and elusive dribbling skills to get to the rim. Whether the Saints are out in transition or in their half-court offense, Myers will blow past defenders for a lay-in. Myers is a respectable 3-point shooter as well. In the post season Myers increased his production to 11.4 points and 5 rebounds per game and helped Neumann-Goretti capture the PIAA 4A hardware. In the 1st Round of states Myers recorded a near triple double — 14 points (3 triples), 8 rebs, 9 assists and 4 steals. Myers also shined on the big stage in Hershey as he posted 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 dimes and 3 steals in the ‘chip game vs. Quaker Valley.
Royce Parham

OH
– 6’7” / North Hills / Wildcat Select / Center: Parham was a 2021-22 WPIAL-Big 56 1st Team All-Section selection and holds offers from Duquesne and Robert Morris. After his ridiculous 20.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 5.3 blocks per game stat line during the 6A state tournament, more DI offers are sure to come pouring in. Offensively he can score with ease while playing the 3, 4 or 5 spot. He owns a quick first step and a soft touch, so he can slash to the basket for a floater or lay-in. If Parham improves his handles, he could be a tremendous stretch-4 player in college. His enormous wingspan combined with his athleticism, timing and quick jumping ability make Parham a relentless rebounder and shot blocker. His near triple double — 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks — in the 2nd round was one of the top all-around performances across the state tournaments.
Kevin Rucker – 6’5” / Chester / Team Final Black / Combo Guard: A major reason for Chester advancing to the 5A semifinals was because this long and athletic scoring guard averaged 15.8 points per night. during the state tournament. His 26-point (3 threes) performance in the Clippers’ quarterfinal win over Shippensburg was something special to witness. In addition to scoring the ball via threes and dribble drives, Rucker is a menacing presence at the defensive end. His speed and quick hands produce a slew of deflections and steals that jump start Chester’s run outs. Rucker also possesses good instincts for the game. This talented combo-guard is a prospect we will be watching closely this spring / summer.

FL
– 6’2” / Neumann-Goretti / Team Final EYBL / Point Guard: After a stellar regular season (18-5-4 per game), Wright was named as a 1st Team All-Philadelphia Catholic League selection. In the post season, Wright’s versatile, high level backcourt play led Neumann-Goretti to the 4A state title. Wright’s ability to alternate between scoring the ball and distributing to his numerous DI level teammates is amazing. He possesses a tremendous feel for what that Saints need offensively on each trip down the court. When in scoring mode, Wright excels in transition and can splash threes. As a facilitator he is an excellent drive and kick as well as pick-n-roll passer. Wright stuffed the stat sheet for each 4A tourney game (21 ppg and 5.8 apg. in states), but two efforts really standout. In the 2nd Round he posted 22 points (1 three), 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals vs. Scranton Prep. Then in the semis Wright went off — 30 points (6 threes), 6 boards and 4 dimes.
