The two games I went to this past weekend were Divison 1 #20 seed Hilliard Darby beating #29 seed Canal Winchester 61-50 and Divison 2 #10 seed DeSales making the comeback win to beat #8 seed Columbus South 52-39.
Cortez Freeman Cortez Freeman 6'2" | SG Africentric | 2024 State OH (2024). G 6’2. Canal Winchester
Freeman is a natural scorer. He can score at all three levels and has a silky smooth jumper. He has great quickness and speed and it can be seen most during his quick pull-ups and fast moves. Handles the ball very well and is an aggressive player. Freeman scores at will and does it in bunches. Finished the game on Friday night with 31 points. I liked how the sophomore had a knack for getting his hand on the ball defensively.
Maurice McCall (2024). G 6’4. Columbus South
McCall is a long athlete that I was very impressed with and got very excited about when I found out he was only a sophomore. I was shocked to see he was a sophomore because he is so mature and controls the game and South’s offense so well. He was very aggressive in the first half and got to the rim at will. I loved his passing and the correct decisions he made with the ball in his hands. He has a great pace to his game and has a very nice hesitation hip swivel that helps him get by a lot of defenders with ease. High an energy kid that I am excited to see grow.
PJ Noles (2025). G 6’2. DeSales
Noles has a mature build for a freshman and is sneaky athletic. He understands the game and moves well off ball to get his shots up. He did not hit a three in the game I saw but you could tell he could shoot with his pretty stroke. He moves well and does nice defensively. Someone that I think can be a problem in the next coming years as he will be more of a focal point for DeSales’ offense.
Damon Griffin (2025). G 5’8. Columbus South
Griffin is a very mature and calm freshman guard with some very tight handles. He showed off these handles with great moves that he uses to law to sleep then blows by them with his quickness. He got to the rim with ease. He did have some trouble scoring against the big and long DeSales team but I believe he will figure it out. I also loved how he had the ability to force multiple times but never did, showing great maturity.
