Ausar Thompson, 6’7 SF Team Elite 2023 Draft class
Amen Thompson, 6’7 SF Team OTE 2023 Draft class
The Thompson twins are two of the best athletes in the country and it was easy to see why NBA teams are so intrigued by the pair. Both are special movers and have the elitist of elite quickness and burst traits. Neither one is a dangerous shooter, but Ausar did knock down his only 3-point attempt of the game. Amen is a great passer despite his three assists and four turnovers in this game specifically. Both prospects will likely be lottery picks in the 2023 NBA draft.
Tyler Smith, 6’9 PF Team OTE 2023 Draft class: Smith came into the Overtime Elite program as one of the top forwards in the country yet is playing a complimentary role next to other talented prospects. Smith showed off his motor and athleticism as he didn’t miss a shot from two-point range and grabbed three offensive rebounds. Smith missed both of his 3-pointers and has some progression to make offensively from the perimeter, but his energy and athleticism are both intriguing for a potential 2023 or 2024 NBA draft prospect.
Jazian Gortman, 6’1 CG Team Overtime 2023 Draft class: Gortman is the type of guard I would take on my team in a heartbeat. Gortman really gets after it defensively, pressuring opposing ball handlers. I didn’t even mind that he was called for four fouls throughout the game because it showed his competitiveness and aggression. Gortman also shoots the ball at a high level, off movement and off the bounce, ending the game 5/9 from 3-point range. I’m not sure if Gortman is a guy I’d want playing point guard at the next level but getting a season without Jean Montero should help answer that question as Montero is expected to declare for the 2022 NBA draft.
Alex Sarr, 6’11 C Team Overtime 2024 Draft class: Outside of the Thompson twins, I think Sarr might have the most long-term NBA potential out of any player in the overtime elite league. Sarr is a great mover at 6’11 and is still young where he will not be eligible until the 2024 NBA draft under current rules. Sarr has a nice frame and finished with a double double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
