Brownsburg came in at 12-7, and before their loss to Indianapolis Attucks on Saturday, Brownsburg was coming off of three wins over former #1 teams in 4A with Carmel, Zionsville, and Westfield. They are led by their young wing duo of Elhadj Diallo and [player_tooltip player_id="1275779" first="Kanon" last="Catchings"] as well as their big man, [player_tooltip player_id="1168167" first="Shon" last="Tupuola"]. Pike came in at 12-4, but they came into the game struggling as they had won just 3 of their last 6. They are led by their senior star, [player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"], who is averaging 20 points per game and will be playing for South Florida next season.

In the first quarter, Pike came out running and gunning like they always do, and Brownsburg tried to keep up. [player_tooltip player_id="1275779" first="Kanon" last="Catchings"] came out on fire for the Bulldogs with a couple of triples, and he was fouled on one of them. [player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"] was fairly quick early on, just taking two shots, but he knocked down a triple and hit three free throws after being fouled on another. Both teams would go back and forth, and they would end the quarter at 15-15. Catchings with 7 and Elhadj Diallo with 4 for Brownsburg. Conwell with 7 and [player_tooltip player_id="1049176" first="Devon" last="Woods"] with 3 for Pike.

In the second quarter, we saw more of the same from these two teams, but towards the end of the quarter, Brownsburg began to catch fire and control the game, but Pike’s three-point shooting kept them in the game as they were 6-12 from three in the half. Brownsburg would lead 36-31 at the half. [player_tooltip player_id="1275779" first="Kanon" last="Catchings"] led the way with 14 points on 3-3 from the outside, and [player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"] led with 13 points.

To start the second half, Brownsburg came out on fire, attacking the boards and making plays. [player_tooltip player_id="1168167" first="Shon" last="Tupuola"] with a pair of buckets inside, and Elhadj Diallo got a putback off of a Tupuola miss. They extended their lead to 43-33 early in the half. The Bulldogs were in control of the paint on both ends of the floor with Diallo and Tupuola dominating the glass and Tupuola coming up with two big blocks. Pike knocked down two triples in the final minute to cut the lead to 8, but Brownsburg would lead 57-49 at the end of 3. [player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"] with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists to do it all for Pike. [player_tooltip player_id="1168167" first="Shon" last="Tupuola"] with 7 points and 5 boards in the quarter to lead the Bulldogs.

In the fourth quarter, it was more of the same for the Bulldogs as Brownsburg was able to get four easy buckets in the paint to extend their lead to 65-51. After this, they would not let up. The three-headed monster of Diallo, Catchings, and Tupuola dominated the quarter and just continued to make play after play. Brownsburg would pull away to a 73-57 win. [player_tooltip player_id="1168167" first="Shon" last="Tupuola"] with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks for Brownsburg. [player_tooltip player_id="1275779" first="Kanon" last="Catchings"] added 18 points. Elhadj Diallo with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists on 7-10 shooting. For Pike, [player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"] ended with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in the loss, and [player_tooltip player_id="1049176" first="Devon" last="Woods"] added 12 points.

On Sunday, we will be back with some player evaluations from this game. For now, [player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"] is going to be very good at South Florida. The Brownsburg duo of Diallo and Catchings is going to make them tough to beat for years to come. Brownsburg has the potential to beat anybody at any time. They beat three former #1’s already this year in Carmel, Westfield, and Zionsville. They should be the Sectional 12 favorite and go into a loaded Regional 3 in March. Pike goes in as the top contender to Ben Davis in Sectional 11. Pike beat Ben Davis twice already this year, but it is very tough to beat a team three times in a season. That will be a matchup to watch.
