This week was full of great games that had lots of great players in them. I saw some exciting prospects and look forward to giving you my evaluations each and every Sunday throughout the season. It is time to recap this week and look at what our exciting prospects did.

Avon: vs Pike 1/19

[player_tooltip player_id="870246" first="Chrishon" last="McCray"] – 5’10 2022 PG (Kent State Football): McCray is a smaller guard but has elite quickness and speed. Displayed a high vertical and did a fantastic job penetrating the defense and finishing through tough contact. Great rebounding guard as well. Tough player that is going to provide elite quickness and athleticism for Kent State Football.

[player_tooltip player_id="1063963" first="Tim" last="Pepper"] – 5’11 2022 PG: Pepper is a shorter yet skilled guard. Thought he displayed great defense and backed that up with a steal that led to a fast break score. Has some real solid handles and got his defender off balance a few times. He is an excellent driver and has a beautiful hesitation move. Just an overall tough finisher.

[player_tooltip player_id="1172872" first="Jordan" last="Lomax"] – 6’2 2024 CG: Overall, this was a pretty up-and-down game for Lomax. Made a few spectacular plays in the first half with a 3 off the catch and athletic two-handed slam. Thought he showed some scrappiness on the defensive end, which I loved to see. He has a ton of length in his arms and legs but really needs to add weight and strength to take his game to that next level. Lot of skill there for sure, however.

Pike: vs Avon 1/19

[player_tooltip player_id="870226" first="Ryan" last="Conwell"] – 6’3 2022 SG (South Florida): What an absolutely dominant performance from the South Florida signee. Worked mostly off the ball here and was scoring so easily off of hard cuts and showed how much his game has improved off the ball. Also utilized the pullup jumper a ton here 15ft and out. Looked like he added a bit more weight as well. He finished with a game high 35 pts with 8 rbs, 4 asts, and 3 stls.

[player_tooltip player_id="1267668" first="Charles" last="Chanin"] – 6’4 2022 SF: Although Chanin is not the quickest forward, he plays physical with his huge frame. Was excellent on the boards on both ends and thought he guarded the post very well even though he got 2 quick fouls in the 1H. Displayed great court vision and made a sharp full court pass that led to an easy bucket. Made an outside jumper and proved again why he is so consistent at all three levels. Big fan of Chanin’s game. He brings that post presence for this talented Pike team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049176" first="Devon" last="Woods"] – 5’10 2023 PG: Woods is just a natural at the lead guard position. Always making plays with the ball and has elite court vision and IQ. Very quick and scores at all three levels. Honestly feel if he was a little taller, he would be a high major player. Small schools need to be all over this guy because he can run your offense to almost perfection. He finished with 18 pts, 7 asts, and 3 stls. Woods is one of my favorite lead guards in the state.

Linton-Stockton: vs North Daviess 1/21

[player_tooltip player_id="868240" first="Joey" last="Hart"] – 6’5 2023 SG: Overall I thought he played a pretty solid game. Played within himself and shot the ball well from deep with confidence. Played off the ball mostly but did a great job playing the one on one game taking it to the rim. His shooting is just so pure and every shot, to me anyways, always looks so deadeye and automatic from start to finish. Also thought he did well adjusting to what the defense was giving him and being creative with how he gets his shot off.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158180" first="Braden" last="Walters"] – 6’5 2024 PF: Walters is a taller player that can play both the guard and forward spot. His best offense actually came from his defense as he had a couple of steals that led to scores on the other end. Thought he displayed tremendous defense with multiple steals and looks to be an elite defender long term. Also is just a sneaky good athlete. Curious to see more of his jumper, however.

North Daviess: vs Linton-Stockton 1/21

[player_tooltip player_id="935727" first="Jaylen" last="Mullen"] – 6’0 2023 PG: Mullen may be a smaller lead guard but this dude is quick and tough as nails. Shot the ball extremely well from deep and showed off his quick release on the pullup 3s. He knows how to make plays with the ball and handles it at a high level. Smaller schools out need to be all over this guy.

South Decatur: vs Greensburg 1/22

[player_tooltip player_id="1168149" first="Hunter" last="Johnson"] – 6’2 2022 SG: It is pretty simple, Johnson is an elite scorer and playmaker. First time seeing him and the first thing that stands out to me is his creativity with the ball in his hands. He knows how to draw fouls and has some real solid shot mechanics. Only thing that concerned me a little was his lack of defense and use of left hand. Unofficially had 29 pts and showed why he is arguably the best scorer in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158195" first="Jacob" last="Scruggs"] – 6’0 2024 PG: Scruggs is a smaller lead guard with toughness. Probably had the best ball handles out of any player in this one and showed some shiftiness around the basket. Drives hard at the rim and is not afraid to go at the bigger forwards. Has an outside jumper as well. Overall, I think he is a talented lead guard that cannot only distribute but provide scoring as well. Should be really good in the next couple of years.

Greensburg: vs South Decatur 1/22

[player_tooltip player_id="870278" first="Colin" last="Comer"] – 6’3 2022 SG: Comer is a taller, highly athletic SG. Started off the game on fire and showed off his deep shooting range knocking down four 3s in the 1Q. Plays with a high motor is explosive heading towards the rim. Easily still one of the best players still available in the 2022 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1160678" first="Ki" last="Dyer"] – 6’1 2023 SG: Dyer is a shorter shooting guard that can play all over. On offense he displayed that he could score at all three level and he attacks the basket hard on the baseline. Thought his defense was excellent as he had a few stop and steals including one that resulted in a fastbreak dunk. Hard player to really preparer for as he can do a little bit of everything. Should be a high level scorer next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158211" first="Addison" last="Barnes-Pettit"] – 6’4 2024 SF/PF: Barnes-Pettit is a bigger forward with a strong build. Kind of a hybrid forward right now as he played a lot inside but showed his ability to stretch the floor as he had a couple of corner 3s. Runs the floor hard and showed off some solid shot blocking ability. Only scratching the surface of what he can be in the future.
