Classic at Damien: Revelations (Part 1)

LA VERNE, CA—Despite a surge of Covid over the Southland, the Classic at Damien persevered with some outstanding games and talent galore—especially the underclassmen. There were some senior standouts like Colorado State-bound Jack Payne (Owyhee/ID) and Fresno State-bound [player_tooltip player_id="1176080" first="Joseph" last="Hunter"] (Damien) as well as some scintillating underclassmen like 2024 Vyctorius Miller (Crean Lutheran) and 2025 Jovani Ruff (LB Poly). There were some revelations as well in Yaw Renner (American Fork), point guard deluxe in Seshsha Henderson (Oak Park), as well as some quality young guards in Mark Jones (Hesperia), and Darrell Morris (Crean Lutheran). However, the biggest revelation was [player_tooltip player_id="1232327" first="Andrej" last="Stojakovic"]--the sharpshooting wing.

Yaw Reneer (American Fork)

2022, WF/PF, 6-foot-5, 220 pounds

Joel’s Take: Reneer is a quality glue-type for his team. The burly 4/3 can impact the game in multiple areas. He uses his strength and bulk to carve out space in the paint to snag rebounds, shows quality ball skills in the open court, and has a good feel for the game. Overall, he is a jack-of-all-trades type of player who can knock down the occasional 3-point shot as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1232327" first="Andrej" last="Stojakovic"] (Jesuit)

2023, WF, 6-foot-7, 190 pounds

Joel’s Take: Stojakovic is a lean wing-type with an evolving skillset. He can knock down the 3-point shot—not shocking considering his father was prolific shooter Peja Stojakovic. However, despite not being overly quick or bouncy, he has adept ball skills, a solid triple threat game, and a good feel for the game. He can weave his way to the basket with his handle and finish with either hand. With added strength, he projects well as a Division 1 player.

Mark Jones (Hesperia)

2025, PG, 6-foot-1, 150 pounds

Joel’s Take: Jones is a solid-looking point guard for the next level. He plays with moxie and confidence and he is equally adept at scoring and facilitating. He pushes the ball well in the open court, plays with a good pace, and his pull-up game is evolving. He can break down defenders off the dribble and his burst looks solid. He needs to work on the range on his shot, but he looks like a solid prospect for the next level.

Darrell Morris (Crean Lutheran)

2024, PG, 5-foot-10, 150 pounds

Joel’s Take: The quick-on-quick point guard is small in stature, but he impacts many aspects of the game. He can blitz up the court, weaving his way through traffic, and either snaps a pass to an open teammate or pull up and nail the 3-point shot. Defensively, he gets underneath opposing guards and he has the quickness to cause havoc.
