2022 Bryce Lindsay surging as he closes in on a commitment
Last night on the campus of Archbishop Spalding, a classic battle took place between the No. 3 St. Frances Panthers and the No. 5 Cavs. These teams are considered as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Baltimore Metro Area and showed exactly why. After Spalding controlled the game for 29 minutes, St. Frances kept within punching distance and took advantage by staging a late run that came down to the final possession. It was 2022 guard Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD who put the dagger in their heart from 30 feet as he drained a long distance three that has become somewhat effortless for him. The senior guard scored a game-high 23 points and continues to play at an exceptionally high level over the last week and a half.
With totals of 41, 26 and 23 points in the last three contests, the sharpshooter is averaging 30 points per game throughout. In between their loss to Imhotep and their win over Spalding last night, Lindsay took an official visit to South Carolina. Prep Hoops caught up with him to discuss.
“Coach Frank Martin is an intense guy,” Lindsay said with a chuckle. “I already knew that coming in and if I didn’t want that in my coach I wouldn’t even have taken the visit. I sat in at practice, got to spend some time with the players and coach and it just felt like family. I like the campus a lot. It’s kind of like home. It’s a college town and they’re all about basketball there.”
Lindsay already established relationships with a couple of players on the current South Carolina roster.
“Jacobi Wright and Eniya Russell (girl’s team) are two people I was already friends with, so it was good seeing them.”
“Coach Martin likes me a lot. He likes how I shoot the ball and they’re in need of shooters right now. They have a lot of guards leaving next year, so he said I’d have a lot of opportunities to play. He plays two guards at one time, too. Even if it’s two combo guards, so I like that.”
Lindsay plans on going back down to campus and watching a live game in the near future as his season winds down.
“Coach Martin thinks I have all the talent in the world and wants to help me develop. He’s going to push me to play defense, and that’s what I need. Coming from Coach Nick, who’s an intense guy, to going to Coach Martin I just feel like would be a good transition.”
Other schools involved with Lindsay include DePaul and Louisville. Lindsay is looking to end his recruitment sooner rather than later, so we could see an announcement any day at this point. One of the top shooters in the 2022 class, Lindsay could bring immense value in that area to the Gamecocks as a freshman.
