Prep Hoops Illinois covered the recent Team Rose Shootout. Here we break down the prospects we saw in our series of scouting reports. Today it is Team Rose Shootout: 2022 Evaluations Pt 1!

[player_tooltip player_id="1106943" first="Joevonn" last="Mccottry"] (Riverside Brookfield)

Long and angular 6’2” guard was extremely productive in their opening win on Saturday over Romeoville. He was effective using his quickness around the basket for acrobatic layups and sneaking in on the offensive glass for put backs. He had 18 points. Projects as a NAIA or D3 prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="925202" first="John" last="Paul Hanley"] (Riverside Brookfield)

Hanley is a strong bodied 6’3” wing that is usually known for his shooting, but in this game he netted 21 points without a single make from distance. He was crafty around the basket scoring on put backs and using his strength inside to convert. Cuts well without the ball. Excellent small college prospect.

Joe Gilhooley (Riverside Brookfield)

This 6’4” small forward plays taller with his length. Was effective on post ups and cuts to the hoop for his 8 points. Another great small college option from Riverside Brookfield!

[player_tooltip player_id="863583" first="Robbie" last="Avila"] (Oak Forest)

Robbie Buckets or Baby Jokic? Either works for me with this Indiana State commit. Convinced that Avila is going to put up the best stat lines when this season is over and his team is rolling racking up wins! The skilled four man is an elite passer that picks apart defenses from the high-post. As a scorer he is so smooth with skilled moves on the block and seals. Can handle it with his slo-mo game. Spin moves on the block and high/low finishes. Rebounds well and is an all-around high IQ player. He had 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 dimes in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049075" first="Fred" last="Robinson"] (Oak Forest)

Robinson played the best we have seen him in his career. The 2022 combo guard was super aggressive attacking off the bounce for scores in the paint. He won in one on one situations and showed burst getting to the cup on straight line takes. Was solid as a passer and rebounder as well. Committed to William Woods.

[player_tooltip player_id="996065" first="David" last="Gieser"] (Evanston)

Gieser transferred over from Evanston after his first three years at Fenwick. Plus shooter with excellent positional size. He is best as a spot up threat as he drained a trio of them. Shooting specialist that can be a very impactful small college player. He had 13 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="925208" first="Rashawn" last="Bost"] (Evanston)

Bost is another prospect that can shoot the ball. Smaller two guard that has a quick release on his three point shot draining multiple triples in their game against Bloom. Mixed in a few drives and dishes, but his bread and butter is his shot making. Really like him as a small college fit!

[player_tooltip player_id="863599" first="Emondrek" last="Ford"] (Bloom)

Ford is among the top uncommitted posts left on the board in 2022. Angular lefty was an absolute force on the defensive end. He can guard all over the floor and blocked shots. Swatted them in the paint and even out to the three point line. Offensively showed flashes with a spin move and even a three. Very streaky shooter however. Went for 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 blocks. Worth consideration for low-majors and D2 programs.

[player_tooltip player_id="925214" first="Davontae" last="Hall"] (Hyde Park)

Hall ranks toward the top of the uncommitted guards list. The combo from Hyde Park is more of a scorer that plays with tremendous speed and pushes it in the open floor. Gets offense started off his defense. Struggled a bit in the first half, but got it rolling in the second with multiple transition scores. Mixed in some passes and a three. His forte is definitely speed and getting to the rack. Finished with 15 points. Low-majors and high D2s should be on him.

Byron Hobbs (Hyde Park)

Hobbs had an excellent day at the office on Saturday. The 6’5” power forward was efficient with his touches around the hoop. Finished on dump offs, put backs, etc. He had 15 points. Small college or JUCO prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="863582" first="Jaden" last="Schutt"] (Yorkville Christian)

Schutt is headed to Duke and the future Blue Devil had his best outing we have seen from him early this season. The sharp shooter drained an array of threes both pulling up and off the catch. Such a quick and perfect shooting stroke. Also mixed in some pull ups in the 15-18 foot range elevating over his opponents for buckets. Got to the rim a couple times but for the most part his 35 points were acquired with his lethal pull up game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210394" first="KJ" last="Vasser"] (Yorkville Christian)

Vasser has been super consistent throughout the season. Mostly a shooter, but only hit one in this game while still managing to score 15 points. Got out in transition for quite a few finishes along with crashing the offensive glass. High level small college prospect worth looking at for D2s as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1257899" first="Tyler" last="Burrows"] (Yorkville Christian)

Burrows is a rock solid role player for Yorkville Christian. The guard is a utility player that does the little things. Had a runner and a three for 9 points. Small college guy.
