DE PERE -- In a battle of top 10 teams, De Pere (6-0) took down Kimberly (3-2) 98-76 on Tuesday...

[player_tooltip player_id="1089756" first="Jack" last="Jorgensen"] - 2022 - SG - De Pere

Jorgensen got hot in the second half and blew the game open for De Pere. The senior sniper hit three-straight triples in short order as the Redbirds got some separation that would push them to the finish line. As we’ve said for a while, Jorgensen might be the best catch-and-shoot 3-point threat in the state. Jorgensen added 21 points in the win. While he’ll do most of his damage from beyond the arc, Jorgensen is a sneaky athlete that will occasionally mix in drives to the rim, taking advantage of over-aggressive close outs. Jorgensen feels like a strong WIAC prospect who’s capable of being a big x-factor at that level given his ability to space the floor and feed off dribble penetration.

[player_tooltip player_id="953943" first="John" last="Kinziger"] - 2023 - G - De Pere

Kinziger dropped 35 points to keep the Redbirds undefeated. The junior guard has some serious three-level scoring ability. With Kinziger’s in-the-gym range, his burst on the ball, and fade away game in the mid-range, Kinziger can take a matchup and exploit it. The 6-foot guard can get zero to 100 in the blink of an eye and was able to blow by his defender. Off the ball, Kinziger is just a relentless worker. He’s never stagnant and constantly moving without the basketball. If you’re not in perfect position upon the catch with Kinziger, you’re in trouble. While he’s a little undersized for a scoring guard, Kinziger is pretty wiry and plays with a chip. He’s not afraid to mix it up on the glass and tussle for contested rebounds. He’ll also stick his face into the fan defensively and create turnovers or deliver contact en route to the rim and not only take a bump, but deliver a blow himself. Kinziger just took over various parts of the game, including a few and-one finishes in the second half to keep Kimberly at bay.

2023 guard [player_tooltip player_id="953943" first="John" last="Kinziger"] dropped 35 points to lead De Pere past Kimberly.@JohnKinziger @DePereHoops pic.twitter.com/wYIvcFCEtt
— Evan Flood (@Evan_Flood) December 22, 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="1351717" first="Zach" last="Kinziger"] - 2025 - SG - De Pere

You think this De Pere team is good now? Wait a year when Kinziger has a year of varsity experience under his belt and helps the Redbirds reload in 2022-23. The freshman scored 15 points and had a few winning plays in the second half. Kinziger took a charge and then hit a 3-pointer on the next possession that was a big momentum swing. With Kimberly trying to mount a comeback late, Kinziger showed some stones by nailing a corner triple with around three minutes remaining, after he missed an attempt just a few seconds earlier in the same possession, as the Redbirds were running out the clock. At 6-foot-2, Kinziger is bigger than his older brother, but has a lot of the same qualities -- deadly shooting ability, relentless effort of the ball, etc.

[player_tooltip player_id="1017073" first="Owen" last="Pawlikowski"] - 2022 - SG - Kimberly

Pawlikowski turned it on in the second half after a quiet opening period. The St. Leo commit finished with 14 points in the loss. Like this get a lot at the Division 2 level. While he ended up choosing basketball, Pawlikowski is one of the state’s top wide receiver prospects as well. Given that he hasn’t focused full-time on hoops yet, think he’s got a lot of room to get better. Pawlikowski has a prototypical shooting guard frame. The 6-foot-3 senior is a strong, explosive athlete that plays both ends of the floor. He’s been shooting the ball really well since the spring and is hitting 3’s at about a 60 percent clip thus far. Pawlikowski can score in a variety of ways as a jump shooter, slasher, offensive rebounder, and even take guys into the post on occasion.

[player_tooltip player_id="801149" first="Jackson" last="Paveletzke"] - 2022 - G - Kimberly

Every time Paveletzke shot, you expected it to go in. The Wofford commit had an absolutely breathtaking performance, scoring a game-high 50 points. Paveletzke had 20 of the first 22 points for Kimberly, single-handedly carrying them for about 10 minutes. He doesn’t have great positional size, he’s not an above the rim athlete or overly fast on the ball, but the skill level of Paveletzke is unbelievable. Paveletzke can just dance with the basketball, wait for his defender to make a mistake, and exploit it. A stop-and-start guard that utilizes change of pace and direction, Paveletzke has the ball on a string and can simply do things that defenders don’t see very often...if ever. He’s a light’s out shooter, which already makes defenders have to stay glued to him, even a few feet past the perimeter. With a quick first step and various counters, it’s hard to stay attached. An assassin who can also take on multiple defenders, Paveletzke has perfected a variety of different finishes in traffic. On night’s like this, there’s really not much you can do except hope he misses. Wofford has had a ton of success with undersized, skilled guards. Look for Paveletzke to continue on that tradition.

Just 50 points from Wofford commit [player_tooltip player_id="801149" first="Jackson" last="Paveletzke"] last night.@jacksonpavvv @PapermakerBB pic.twitter.com/g8K0nNoOfn
— Evan Flood (@Evan_Flood) December 22, 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="1193234" first="Will" last="Hornseth"] - 2024 - PF - De Pere

You could make a very strong case that Hornseth was the top prospect in Tuesday’s star-studded matchup. Hornseth is gonna have a chance at high major offers, because he does the little things that are hard to find in post prospects these days. You hate calling him old school, but you don’t see a lot of forwards willing to bang in the post, pin their man deep, and make their living with a skilled back-to-the-basket game. Kinziger is the star, but if De Pere needs a bucket, they know they can turn to Hornseth to get a high percentage shot. The 6-foot-8 sophomore is a big target with soft hands that can catch in traffic. He’s a terrific threat in the high-low game, able to get lower than his defender and drive them out towards the 3-point line and catch with one-hand over his shoulder. Hornseth is starting to shoot it well and knocked down a couple of jumpers on Thursday. Hornseth is also an exceptional passer as well. He can catch in the high post, turn and face, and find cutters. In the post, he’ll suck defenders in on digs and kick out to open 3-point shooters. Holding two mid-major offers early, Hornseth appears to be on a very positive track with a lot to offer at the next level.
