I was able to stop by the tournament this week and there was a lot of strong teams and good talent. Here’s a quick look at some of the top 2024/2025 standouts I saw.
1. Aaron Powell – Campbell Hall 2024
Powell is a point guard with high upside. He’s a very good ball-handler that can dribble under defensive pressure. He’s very quick off the bounce and he’s always looking to finish strong at the rim. In transition, he can go length of the court and finish. He’s a big guard with good body who absorbs contact and finishes through traffic. He’s a good shooter from distance who can shoot off the dribble or catch and shoot.
2. Solo Bailey – Crossroads 2025
Bailey is a very athletic player who can do a lot of things on the offensive end. He can move without the ball and he’s a good three-point shooter off the catch. He can cut to the rim and he finishes strong at the rim. He’s active in the paint and he’s a pretty good rebounder. Does a good job running the floor in transition. He’s a good defensive player too. He gets in the passing lanes and he forces turnovers.
3. Jordan Houegban – Brentwood 2024
Houegban came off the bench but he had a strong impact in the game I saw. He’s very quick and he’s always looking to push the ball on the break. Good ball-handler and a pass first point guard. He plays well off of screens and can look to score or make the pass. Does a good job initiating the offense in the halfcourt and he balances scoring and playmaking well. Can shoot from three-point range and shoots consistently off the dribble.
4. James Evans – West Ranch 2024
Evans has always been a versatile big man. He can handle the ball and he can make plays off the dribble. He also has good vision and can pass the ball well finding open teammates. Off the bounce he can either pull-up for a jumper or get to the rim where he finishes strong. Consistent range from three-point line. Does a good job blending strength and finesse. Defensively he can block shots in the paint and he does a good job staying vertical on his contests.
