This weeks Balldawgs GOTW features our #4 ranked 4A team Spring Valley vs #8 ranked 5A squad Centennial. Coach Hartstock’s Bulldogs are off to a 5-1 which includes a win over Thursday night’s opponent Spring Valley. The Grizzlies come in at 3-3 with two additional losses coming to 5A Canyon Springs and #3 4A Valley. The game will provide an opportunity for detailed evaluations for several prospects.

Senior Prospects:

[player_tooltip player_id="928926" first="Jayven" last="Jones"] 6’1 CG Centennial (#64PHN 2022) (featured image)

Strengths: power guard, with downhill scoring capability.

Questions:

(1) Can he consistently make Catch and Shoot 3’s.

(2) Can he transition down from a 1 to a combo?

Scouts Take: Jones is a physical power guard with the ability to score the ball in transition and 1 v 1. He has good quickness and a willingness to defend, and his upper body strength allows him to defend both on ball and wing players effectively. Centennial features a balanced offensive attack, however, Jones does have the ability to impact games regardless of how much he scores.

Strengths: Speed and quickness. On ball Defense.

Questions:

(1) Is he a good defender or a great on-ball defender?

Scouts Take: Ceaser is a tempo-changing guard with the ability to impact a game with his speed and quickness. He’s good on ball as a defender and puts pressure on defenses with his paint touch ability.

Stockrisers

[player_tooltip player_id="940475" first="Elijah" last="Burney"] 6’0 PG Centennial 2023 (#30PHN 2023) - This could be a good game for the Junior guard to raise his profile. He has a good handle and the ability to find open players, and make open shots.

[player_tooltip player_id="986968" first="Jamison" last="McCall"] 5’11 CG Spring Valley 2024 (#14PHN 2024) - McCall has the ability to be a consistent third scorer for the Grizzlies. He’s incorporated a nice mid-range pull-up game to go along with his three-point shooting. A solid contribution from him would go a long way to helping the Grizzles pull the upset.

3 Potential Breakout Players

[player_tooltip player_id="1053246" first="Chase" last="Jackson"] 6’8 C Centennial 2023 (#9PHN 2022)

[player_tooltip player_id="986969" first="Jordon" last="Cosby"] 6’0 SG Spring Valley 2024 (#19PHN 2024)

Top Underclassmen

[player_tooltip player_id="986798" first="Alijah" last="Adem"] 6’1 PG Spring Valley 2024 (#7PHN 2024) - Adem has been terrific averaging 27 - 9 to start the season. His wiggle and off the bounce shooting ability separates him from most players in the game. The type of player that raises his play as the game gets tighter, Adem provides the Grizzlies with a puncher’s chance in the case of a tight contest.
