Expert Analysis

Elijah Burney was really, really impressive today. In the first game against Nebraska Supreme, he finished with a game high 20 points. When his team was struggling to score, they put the ball in Burney’s hands and let him go to work. The guard out of Vegas had a handful of acrobatic finishes around the rim, and hit some nice pull up jumpers as well. His stock should definitely increase after today, especially with the amount of coaches in attendance.

Burney ran with Team Gold in the local game and impressed with his scoring ability. He showed range on his three pointers knocking down a variety from deep range. He also displayed some shiftiness that wasn’t necesarily seen during his Centennial days.

Burney is a intriguing player. He was highly productive as a high school player, and has a good offensive combination of shooting, and handles. He also has the Type A personality that a lot of successful floor generals have. He’s had interest from JC’s D3’s and D2’s at this point in his recruitment.

28↑24 Burney is another high academic guy that has a shot to play somewhere at the next level. He’s not the best R&J athlete, however it’s impossible to ignore his skill level. The PG shoots it at a high rate, and can also handle and distribute with the best of them.

I’ve always liked some of Burney’s intangibles, this weekend his skill showed out. I believe he’s more of a shot maker than shooter, however he makes them from a variety of levels. In addition to being one of the top PG’s at the event, his play earned him stockriser status.

Look for Burney to get a bump in the rankings after a strong showing. His overall skill level looked improved as he showed some wiggle and the ability to use combo moves to create shots for himself. He should have an opportunity to have a productive season for the Bulldogs.
