The Balldawgs All-Star Event took place Sunday, May 7th at Liberty HS in Henderson, Nevada. The event featured a local girls’ game, a National Girls’ game, a three-point contest, a dunk contest, a local boys’ game and finally a National Boys’ contest. The game was the last game for the senior class and featured standout performances from local players in both the Local and National Games. Let’s look at some of the standouts.
Burney ran with Team Gold in the local game and impressed with his scoring ability. He showed range on his three pointers knocking down a variety from deep range. He also displayed some shiftiness that wasn’t necesarily seen during his Centennial days.
Highlights
Fabello did what he did for four years at Valley. The PG handed out buckets in droves to his contemporaries. Fabello was dangerous from distance, treating the game like his personal shooting gallery, in route to being named Local game MVP. The senior guard has signed on to play at William Penn.
The newly signed Phoenix College wing flashed terrific scoring ability. He did what he is traditionaly known for which is slashing to the cup and finishing. He also used the game to highlight his handles, shaking up a few players in 1 v 1 situations.
The long armed guard capped off a remarkable career going from little known JV player, to State Champion buy earning a spot in a National AS Game. He did a little bit of everything, showing terrific instincts while getting steals, driving to the cup and creating for teammates, while helping power his Team Black to a victory.
Highlights
Knox was a busy man on this day. In addition to participating in the National Game he took part in the three point contest. The sharpshooter put his skills to good use in both. In the game, not only did he knock down threes, but he also scored in transition for Team Green. The newly committed Creighton wing, put together a solid all around performance.
The All Star setting was perfect for Mcdowell. The unsigned senior got out in transition, had a few monster blocks and threw down a few monster dunks. The 6’6 bouncy wing is still an attractive recruit, getting looks from several JC’s.
Lawson is a player who’s stock continues to rise. He has the type of skill set that envisions him being a terrific 3 and D guy at the next level. He showed a good burst, blowing by opponents to get to the rim, finishing off several plays by hammering home exposive dunks.
Mack closed out a remarkable career by putting together a magnificent performance in the AS game. The dynamic guard was unstoppable, scoring from seemingly every level. He had his deep ball working, but his ability to get downhill, find contact and finish at the rim was the difference in the game. He went on to take home MVP honors of the event.
