Region 6-AAA Preview

The defending Class 3A State Champions Marlboro County HS Bulldogs have went under some changes since last season. Who is the team to beat here in Region 6-AAA ? Prep Hoops dives into its coverage right here on your leader for prep basketball coverage in the Palmetto State. 

Prep Hoops Predictions:

1.Lakewood HS (Sumter) – The Gators were tied with Marlboro County last season on top at (4-1) in region play. 

2.Crestwood HS (Dalzell) – Can the Knights and Head Coach Aric Samuel get over the top this season ? 

3.Lake City HS – The Panthers were (2-3) in region play last season and (3-4) overall. 

4.Camden HS – The Bulldogs have some young players for veteran Head Coach Ron McKie. 

5.Manning HS – The Monarchs were (2-8) last season overall. 

6.Marlboro County HS (Bennettsville) – New Coach Joey Footman takes over for the defending the Class 3A State Champions. Former Bulldog Prince Johnson Prince Johnson 6'7" | PF Pebblebrook | 2023 State GA recently decided to transfer out to the Hoop State. 

Trey White Trey White 6'4" | PF Crestwood | 2022 State SC (2022) – Crestwood HS (Dalzell) 

White was a pleasant surprise this summer for the Knights with his play at SCBCA Camp in Rock Hill. Trey does a nice job playing within 6-8 feet of the basket and working the paint from side to side. White tends to use his body well and shows to have a nice touch on the foul line. 

Corean Nelson Corean Nelson 6'0" | CG Crestwood | 2023 State SC (2023) – Crestwood HS (Dalzell) 

Corean can change gears to get by defenders on the way to the basket. Nelson a shifty ball-handler really has good elevation on his jump shot. 

Shamontae Burgess Shamontae Burgess 5'11" | CG Lake City | 2022 State SC (2022) – Lake City HS – Prep Hoops CO-Preseason Region Player of the Year

Burgess averaged 14.2 ppg last season for the Panthers. Shamontae recently finished the football season as a wide receiver. Burgess visited Fayetteville State University (NC) this past weekend on the football side. 

Kameron Rodriguez Kameron Rodriguez 6'0" | CG Lakewood | 2022 State SC (2022) – Lakewood HS (Sumter) – Prep Hoops CO- Preseason Region Player of the Year

Rodriguez excels on the football field just like the basketball court for the Gators. Kameron averaged 10.5 ppg last season. 

Justin Daniels Justin Daniels 6'2" | PG Manning | 2023 State SC (2023) – Manning HS

Daniels will look to lead the Monarchs after a tough last season. Daniels a Quarterback on the gridiron works his magic in the backcourt for the Monarchs basketball team. 

Jehqwauyn Hilton Jehqwauyn Hilton 6'6" | SF Manning | 2023 State SC (2023) – Manning HS 

Hilton a rangy forward has some ball skills to handle the rock in the open floor. Daniels and Hilton will have to make the Monarchs go upward this season in the standings. 

Nyrell Stradford Nyrell Stradford 6'5" | SF Camden | 2023 State SC (2023) – Camden HS (pictured on front) 

Nyrell is a bit of a mismatch at times on the floor with his size. Stradford can overpower players to the rack with his thick frame and bullish attitude. Nyrell will keep defenders honest with his perimeter shooting. 

* Prince Johnson Prince Johnson 6'7" | PF Pebblebrook | 2023 State GA (2023) has transferred out of Marlboro County HS and transferred to Combine Academy (NC). Johnson helped the Bulldogs win a Class 3A State Championship last season over Seneca HS.
