Today we review our preseason Top 10 “prep school” basketball teams for SEPA.

Westtown School – This Moose roster needs no introduction and that is why they are in our No. 1 spot. Their Class of 2022 includes do-it-all big fella [player_tooltip player_id="991185" first="Dereck" last="Lively II"] (Duke); point-God [player_tooltip player_id="991188" first="Jameel" last="Brown"] (Penn State); future DI combo-guard Quin Berger and high-level backcourt prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1202387" first="Wade" last="Chiddick"]. Running with that group is junior 3-level scorer [player_tooltip player_id="1200771" first="Matt" last="Mayock"] (DI prospect) and high-level transfer Seyphon Triplett (2023). Triplett is a walking highlight reel. He averaged 23 ppg. last season at Putnam (MA) and posted a 42-point game. Triplett holds several DI offers. 2025 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1271440" first="Ben" last="Rill"] is outstanding as well.

Phelps School – Phelps does not rebuild, they simply reload. Leading this year's reload are unstoppable wing [player_tooltip player_id="991172" first="Neel" last="Beniwal"] and filthy scoring point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1192711" first="Chas" last="Kelley"] (Boston College). Beniwal one of the top uncommitted 2022s in the region. Dribble drive wizard Saleem Payne, Jr. (St. Francis) was a ridiculous transfer addition. Athletic and physical combo-forward SJ Hutchinson (2022) is a match-up nightmare. Jack Collins (Monmouth) is an automatic 3-point shooter.

George School – In 2021-22 this under the radar program will step into the spotlight. Led by interior force [player_tooltip player_id="1119114" first="Onyekachi" last="Nzeh"] (numerous DI offers) and former Archbishop Molloy (NY) standout point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1285466" first="Christian" last="Bliss"] (five DI offers) this squad will be ready for primetime. Transfer [player_tooltip player_id="901991" first="Dante" last="Weise"] is an all-around playmaking guard who averaged 13 / 7 /6 last season for Allentown (NJ). 6'9” Gestin Liberis adds frontcourt depth.

SCH Academy – The Blue Devils' Covid-19 season consisted of only six games. Well, thanks to the addition of elite small forward [player_tooltip player_id="1188210" first="Alassane" last="Amadou"], mid-range phenom [player_tooltip player_id="1200762" first="Camden" last="Burns"] and 3-point assassin [player_tooltip player_id="1281996" first="Jaren" last="Morton"], in 2021-22 basketball will back in a big way at SCHA. Amadou is one of the top 2023 prospects in the region and holds a truck load of DI offers. Those three will provide much needed help for returning junior backcourt standout Darius Isaac.

Hill School – With the graduation of hoops icon Gabe Dorsey (Now at Vanderbilt) it looked like 2021-22 would be a long season for returning Hill superstar guard Gabe Moss (Delaware). Then reinforcements arrived. Top rated 2025 point guard prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1196125" first="Jacob" last="Meachem"] chose Hill. Additionally, versatile big man [player_tooltip player_id="1202023" first="Augustus" last="Gerhart"] (2023) and three level scoring machine [player_tooltip player_id="1281962" first="Trey" last="O'Neil"] (2024) transferred in. Senior frontcourt beast Ethan Meuser (Stonehill) will make significant contributions too.

Academy of New Church – ANC has one of the best backcourts in the region in [player_tooltip player_id="1119147" first="Elmarko" last="Jackson"] (12 DI offers) and [player_tooltip player_id="1119156" first="Deywilk" last="Tavarez"] (Offer from Hofstra). Jackson reminds us of Russell Westbrook, but with a nice jumper. Tavarez is a versatile guard who scores at all 3 levels. At 6'9”, senior forward Gabe Harris is a force on the glass. Fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id="991213" first="Anthony" last="McCall"] is an underrated prospect. Jackson, Harris and McCall also play together on the grassroots circuit for We R1, so this group has tremendous chemistry.

Friends Central School – The FC program's return to its basketball glory days starts now. Pushing the reboot will be a trio of transfers – electric Philly Pride National point man [player_tooltip player_id="1173986" first="Fazl" last="Oshodi"] (2024); former Upper Merion (PA) star forward [player_tooltip player_id="1281940" first="Colin" last="Bowman"] (Three DI offers); and transition scorer [player_tooltip player_id="1192647" first="Reid" last="Belcher"] (2024). Homegrown sophomore talent [player_tooltip player_id="1123937" first="Isaac" last="Moore"] is an interior prospect (6'7”) with a skill set that has developed immensely over the last year.

Rocktop Academy – Transfer Earle Greer, Jr. (2020-21 Bicentennial League POY) will team with Jayden Brown to form a scary good backcourt tandem. Greer is a senior combo guard who averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds per game last season. Brown is one of the better uncommitted 2022 point guards in the area. Small forward standout [player_tooltip player_id="991134" first="Devon" last="Jainlett"] is a bouncy, 6'6” prospect who feasts on converting 2nd chance opportunities into points. Jarron Drayton is another guard on the roster who has DI potential.

Germantown Academy – The senior backcourt of elite combo-guard [player_tooltip player_id="991323" first="Jake" last="Hsu"] (Inter-Ac POY candidate) and high percentage shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="991208" first="Casey" last="Traina"] (6'3”) will light up the scoreboard. 6'5” Blake Smith is a wing who can score in multiple ways. After a monster grassroots circuit with K-Low Elite, Smith is primed for a breakout this winter. As the season rolls along, expect outstanding freshman [player_tooltip player_id="1271430" first="Larry" last="Zhan"] to contribute.

Abington Friends School – A trio of transfers helps create the best roster in years at AFS. Point guard Kaydin Ford (2024) is ultra-quick going coast to coast. That quickness also makes Ford a tenacious on-ball defender. 6'5” [player_tooltip player_id="1279645" first="Ife" last="West-Ingram"] (2023) is an athletic, slashing wing who plays above the rim. Junior combo-guard [player_tooltip player_id="1281944" first="Angel" last="Otero"] can finish through contact and splash 3-pointers. Seniors Debarrin Norman (6'5"; F/C) and Bryan Carter (6'4"; G/F) are receiving attention from D2/D3 programs.
