Can anyone beat Martin County this upcoming season? We are starting with the best team in the Treasure Coast area to kick off our Season Preview. I had a chance to catch up with Coach Leon and get some insight on the upcoming season which should be another great one!

Martin County is coming off a 21-1 season where their only loss was by just 2 points in a Region Final game from Mater Academy. County returns 3 starters and will be looking to compete for a 3rd straight district title. Coach Leon always makes sure the word student is clearly in front of athlete so that when they move on from his program they have sound academics and have grown through athletics. Winning in the classroom first before stepping on the court is the expectation from day 1 for these student-athletes. The roster is loaded from top to bottom comprised with not only some of the best players in their local area but the state as a whole. The team will be led by senior captains [player_tooltip player_id="829398" first="Ryan" last="Davis"] who is a NSU commit and dual-sport star [player_tooltip player_id="1065497" first="Braydin" last="Samuels"]. To add to an already loaded group the Tigers welcomed transfers 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1306059" first="Elijah" last="Duval"] (Prep Hoops Top 20) and 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1161428" first="Rosario" last="Clements"]. Let’s take a deeper dive into this talented roster:

Key Returning Players:

6’4 C/O 22 [player_tooltip player_id="829398" first="Ryan" last="Davis"] 3 year starter 1st team All-state and Treasure Coast Player of the Year (NSU Commit)
6’4 C/O 22 [player_tooltip player_id="1065497" first="Braydin" last="Samuels"] 1st team all-district (PBHOOPS) and TCPALM
6’1 C/O 23 Ka’Mari Haston
5’11 C/O 22 Jayden Pressey
6’1 C/O 23 [player_tooltip player_id="1310889" first="Cam" last="Insalaco"]
5’11 C/O 22 Dylan Victor
6’2 C/O 22 Jack Pierrelus
6’2 C/O 22 Christian Agosto
6’4 C/O 23 Charlie Winter

Key Newcomers:

6’4 C/O 22 [player_tooltip player_id="1161428" first="Rosario" last="Clements"] (transfer Port Saint Lucie)
6’4 C/O 24 [player_tooltip player_id="1306059" first="Elijah" last="Duval"] (transfer Bonner. PA)
6’3 C/O 24 Krishawn Baggett (moved up from JV)
6’3 C/O 23 Parker Olson (moved up rom JV)

I expect the Tigers to have another big season as you would be hard-pressed to find a more talented roster across Florida. [player_tooltip player_id="829398" first="Ryan" last="Davis"] is a player who can hurt you from anywhere on the court and plays very physical. [player_tooltip player_id="1065497" first="Braydin" last="Samuels"] has a very quick first step and can get to the rim with ease. This team is loaded with speed and while the roster lacks a true center I feel their speed and transition game will make up for it. One of the players I am most excited to watch is transfer [player_tooltip player_id="1306059" first="Elijah" last="Duval"]. Jah as he goes by moved to Florida and is ranked a Top 20 player in his class by Prep Hoops. I expect Jah to bring a lot of attention from college coaches to the area. I also am a fan of the uptempo style from players like Jayden Pressey, [player_tooltip player_id="1310889" first="Cam" last="Insalaco"] and Ka’Mari Haston all play with good speed and are constantly in attack mode. Sharpshooter sophomore Krishawn Baggett a teammate of [player_tooltip player_id="1306059" first="Elijah" last="Duval"] on the Prep Hoops Circuit will provide good scoring and solid minutes off the bench for the Tigers. There are several games that stand out on their schedule that I am excited to see one of them will be in January at the Wally Keller Classic in Punta Gorda against Life Christian Academy out of Kissimmee. The Tigers will have an early test against Ft Pierce Central on December 7th and other teams like Centennial, Treasure Coast High School, and Vero Beach High School should provide some good competition for this group. This group is poised for a huge season and I really feel can make a strong run at a state title. The hard work put in during the offseason should pay off for this group and I believe the transfers of [player_tooltip player_id="1161428" first="Rosario" last="Clements"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1306059" first="Elijah" last="Duval"] will pay big dividends. This will be an exciting team to watch! Thanks to Coach Leon and Coach Al Parks for the insight on the upcoming season we wish you all the best!
