It’s October and fall leagues are in full swing, players and coaches are getting ready for the regular season working hard in practice. With opening day just weeks away it’s time to make the Prep Hoops preseason All-Orlando teams. I broke it down into two categories large schools (5-7A) and small schools (1-4A). This article will highlight the Small School second team.

PG [player_tooltip player_id="829444" first="Jah" last="Quinones"] 6-4 Lake Highland Prep

Few players improved their stock more over the last six months than Quinones. The broad shouldered point guard has an elite feel for the game. He sees things before they happen and has an uncanny ability to find the open man. He is also capable of getting to the basket using a wide variety of moves off the dribble, and his upper body strength allows him to finish through contact. This past AAU season he seemed much improved shooting the ball from behind the 3-point line. As a junior he posted numbers of 10.8 PPG 6.2 RPG and 4.2 APG leading the Highlanders to a 13-8 record.Teaming with [player_tooltip player_id="712136" first="Brice" last="Sensabaugh"] Lake Highland has a backcourt that is capable of bringing the team deep into the state playoffs. Quinones recently committed to Mercer.

PG [player_tooltip player_id="829405" first="Nicholas" last="Rodriguez"] 6-0 Central Florida Christian

Rodriguez is relentless attacking the rim which allows him to either score and or get to the free throw line. He also does a great job of drawing the help defense and kicking it out to open shooters. Defensively he anticipates well causing havoc in the passing lanes getting steals resulting in transition points. As a junior he led CFCA in assists at 4.1 APG to go along with 11.7PPG. Recruiting wise Rodriguez has an offer from Division II Trevecca Nazarene.

SF [player_tooltip player_id="829459" first="Krishen" last="Atwal"] 6-5 Trinity Prep

Atwal has an elite skill, he can shoot the ball with the best of them. He has great size out on the wing, and added muscle allows him to have an impact around the basket. As a junior Atwal ended the season on a tear scoring 28 points in the district championship, and 19 in the next game of the state tournament. Schools from every level have had contact with Atwal who is also a standout in the classroom. A bright future lies ahead!

C [player_tooltip player_id="709236" first="Jayden" last="Hastings"] 6-10 Orlando Christian Prep

As far as long term potential goes I could have easily had Hastings as a first teamer. The 6-10 center is extremely mobile for a guy his size and seemingly gets better every time he steps on the floor. Last time I saw him he had a few nice hook shots, and dunked hard in addition to being a major presence around the rim. He will be a key cog in Orlando Christian Prep's quest to 3-peat as the class 2A state champions.

F/C [player_tooltip player_id="1065445" first="Clarens" last="Pierre"] 6-8 Central Florida Christian Academy

Last year CFCA had 6-11 Immanuel Zorgval, a raw but talented big man who made leaps and bounds in his development over the summer and had a monster senior year. The same thing could quite possibly happen for Pierre. The big man has great athleticism and defensive instincts, and has been making progress on the other end as well. Pierre blocks shots at an elite level, rebounds his area well, and dunks like he’s angry. Central Florida Christian is going to win a lot of games this year with a deep, balanced scoring roster.
