Jacob Scheuring (6’5 2022 F, Eastview)- One of the bright spots in a loss to Park Center, Jacob is part of a deep Eastview roster this year. His length is an asset on the defensive end as he’s a long and lanky 6’5 forward who can defend in the paint or move his feet against some guarding opposing 3’s at times. Offensively he scored with efficiency whether it was finishing at the rim or knocking down some catch and shoot threes with a confident shooting stroke.
Adam Tauer Adam Tauer 6'3" | SG Andover Central | 2023 State MN (6’4 2023 W, Cretin-Derham Hall)- Adam came out and scored the first bucket of the game with a strong take to the rim, and then impressed the length of the game with his effort on the defensive end. Took on the challenge of guarding some talented Columbia Heights wings, and made adjustments throughout the game to hold them to quiet second halves. If there was a loose ball Adam was almost always the first one there, and he also moves his feet well on the wing to disrupt opposing players off the dribble. Offensively he’s a reliable shooter and he finished well at the rim with hard off-ball cuts or straight line drives.
Tyrell Sappington Tyrell Sappington 5'11" | PG Hopkins | 2022 State MN (5’10 2022 PG, Hopkins)- When it comes to point guards who get after it defensively, Tyrell ranks with the best in the 2022 class. He could go all game without scoring but make a big impact with his ball pressure on the defensive end. Tyrell is so quick and sits deep in a stance to move his feet while sticking right to opposing ball handlers and not giving them an inch of space. That ball pressure makes it difficult for the other team to get into their offense, and can force mistakes as he speeds the other player up out of their comfort zone. Offensively he finishes well at the rim against size, and is an unselfish player who won’t force anything and makes sure to get all of his teammates involved.
Andrew Scoggins (6’5 2022 F, Columbia Heights)- One player for Columbia Heights who could see valuable minutes is senior Andrew Scoggins. At 6’5 he has a long frame and is a mobile athlete who provided his team with some defensive versatility against CDH. He’s long enough to guard some bigs, but also has the quickness at his size to switch and guard multiple spots when needed. Offensively he gives you someone who isn’t going to force up bad shots, and instead will work off the ball to put himself in spots to get high percentage shots in the paint.
Gabe Jobe Gabe Jobe 5'10" | SG Edina | 2022 State MN (5’10 2022 PG, Edina)- There was no specific period in the game in which Gabe went on a huge run that stood out, rather he was consistently providing key buckets over the course of the game. With his smaller size some may suspect him to be just a shooter, but he’s such a tough finisher around the rim even against length. Gabe showed he can hang in the air and contort his body in a number of ways to finish around size, and he even showed off bounce with an impressive tip-in off his teammate’s missed shot. Edina ended up losing on a buzzer beater, but Gabe nearly came up with the clutch basket himself as he converted on a tough finish to tie the game up with just about 10 seconds to play.
Ryan Warren Ryan Warren 6'2" | SG Eden Prairie | 2022 State MN (6’3 2022 G, Benilde-St. Margaret’s)- Really like the extra scoring punch that Ryan brings to the floor this year for BSM. Not a lot of guards match his combination of strength, shooting ability, and athleticism that make him a versatile threat on the offensive end. Against Minnetonka he showed that he has the ability to finish equally as well with either hand around the rim, making him a threat to attack either side of the basket at any time. Ryan also displayed a confident lefty stroke from beyond the arc that he can hit at a solid rate when given too much space. Provides a bit of length to defend on the wing as well, as he has the ability to defend multiple spots on the perimeter.
Graham Owusu (6’4 2022 SF, Cretin-Derham Hall)- Graham brings an additional forward to the lineup for CDH that can provide some defensive versatility as well as an outside shooting threat. Didn’t know who he was coming into the weekend, but he left an impression due to his long frame, mobility, and outside shot. Not someone who’s going to need to put up big scoring numbers off the bench, but looks like he’ll be able to come in and guard most spots on the floor as a reliable defender. Worked hard to move his feet and rebound the ball, and showed he can knock down some threes which bodes well for the Raiders considering they have arguably the best passer in the state.
