On October 1st I attended the Monarch Sports 2nd annual Battle at Bella Vista at Cactus Shadows HS in Cave Creek, AZ.

I watched 3 games which featured 5 teams:

Sunnyslope, Bella Vista Prep National, Bella Vista Prep CAA, Millennium and Horizon.

Here were some of the non-senior standouts viewed including four newcomers:

[player_tooltip player_id="831119" first="Jason" last="Fontenet Jr"] Bella Vista Prep National

Fontenet Jr had a very good weekend. He scored it and made plays. He is a better passer then what he gets credited for. He makes deep 3's, he has a nasty pull-up off the dribble and gets to the rim scoring on floaters, finger rolls and bounces off of defenders with his sturdy frame.

[player_tooltip player_id="992829" first="Gabe" last="Pickens"] Millennium

One of the stronger PG's in the AIA regardless of class. He is a throw back facilitator who probes the defense. He makes his teammates jobs easier throwing them timely passes to go to work. He can shoot the 3 plus get downhill using his frame and build. He is a bully on the ball defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id="1150844" first="Quincy" last="Everson"] Millennium (Pictured)

A natural scorer is already filling it up on varsity. He makes shots off the catch from mid to the 3 but he can already create his own and make the contested off-balanced ones in traffic. He uses a super quick release and he gets to his spots he wants. He will take some of the pressure off of the sophs and Reggie Orr, as he has a very mature game for his class.

Newcomers:

[player_tooltip player_id="1301336" first="Bronson" last="Chambers"] Bella Vista Prep National

A good sized wing from Canada has some tools to utilize and comes with a pretty 3pt stroke. He can handle it a little to get downhill and will score around opposing bigs. He competes on defense and will rebound the ball. He will take pressure off of their scorers this season on the Grind Session spreading the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1301337" first="Marques" last="Josephs"] Bella Vista Prep National

A super athletic Canadian guard plays way above the rim on the break despite being a little undersized. He has good ball skills and creates for others, but he is looking to score. The lefty makes perimeter jumpers off the catch and is a star in transition. He uses his stronger build and athletic gifts to defend on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1301327" first="Jack" last="Brackmann"] Horizon

A true combo guard is a good play-maker and smartly reads the defense and has real court vision. He also can really shoot it to the 3pt line with a consistent stroke. He will be pivotal taking and making shots this season plus being the secondary ball handler. He can drive and kick or make shots with either hand in the lane. He may be a breakout candidate of the Northeast Valley 5A region.

[player_tooltip player_id="1301344" first="Kingston" last="Tosi"] Millennium

A talented Tiger team is lacking some size. Insert Tosi. He moved in from Alaska and he has good length. He runs well from end to end and shows some activity on the glass. He can step out and shoot the 3 but for this team his size and length will be needed versus some of the bigger teams in 5A.
