One of the best ball-handlers in the state, Cavil has complete control over the basketball when he has it in his hands. He’s excellent at creating his own shot, using his quick first step, excellent ball-handling, and superior footwork to help open up space to get his looks, and he’s improving as a finisher around the bucket. He’s armed with one of the top mid-range games in the state, and he’s becoming more and more efficient as he matures physically and mentally. A talented three-level scorer who can also break down the defense and get others involved, Cavil figures to be one of the most productive players in the state over the next three seasons.
Boaz Clark Boaz Clark 6'3" | PG Roland-Story | 2024 State IA (Roland-Story)
Clark played very sparingly last year for the Norsemen, but figures to be a key piece of their rotation this season. A 6-0 lead guard who can score and dish it, he plays with good pace and is a strong ball-handler. He can also move off the ball, showing good off-ball movement and utilization of off-ball screens to free himself up for open looks. He’s a good shooter off both the dribble and the catch, with a quick release and extended range. He’s a smart guard who doesn’t turn the ball over often and makes the right plays, rather than the flashy ones.
Luke Hart Luke Hart 5'11" | PG Waukee Northwest | 2024 State IA (Waukee Northwest)
The younger brother of former Waukee lead guard Noah Hart, Luke is a small (listed 5-10), but skilled, lead guard. He’s a bit more of a scoring guard at this point than a pass-first point guard, but he’s a talented shooter who gets the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the bounce. He’s a very good ball-handler who certainly doesn’t lack in confidence, and he has extended range. He has a lot of growing to do still, but there are a lot of skills here.
Carson Johnson Carson Johnson 5'11" | PG Ankeny | 2024 State IA (Ankeny)
Johnson is small (listed at 5-9), but a very effective lead guard who can both score and facilitate. He has an outstanding feel for the game, is a great ball-handler, and has excellent court vision. He does a great job playing with pace, changing speeds to help him get by defenders and into the teeth of the defense, where he is improving as a finisher, and where he can kick out to open shooters.
Brady Martin Brady Martin 6'0" | PG West Burlington | 2024 State IA (West Burlington)
Martin is probably more of an off-ball guard at this point, but he’s working on his lead guard skills as well and probably projects more as a “one” at the next level. He moves well off the ball and is a good shooter off the catch, doing a good job getting his feet squared and ready to shoot on the catch. His ball-handling and decision-making are improving, and as he continues to tighten up his handle, his entire offensive arsenal will become more potent.
Treyton McCain Treyton McCain 6'1" | PG Decorah | 2024 State IA (Decorah)
McCain is a capable 3-point shooter, but is at his best when he’s using his athleticism and quickness advantage to play downhill and get to the bucket for finishes or to dish off to his teammates. A 6-0 guard with good length, he uses that length effectively on the defensive end, pairing it with his excellent lateral quickness to be a strong on-ball defender.
Luke Winkel Luke Winkel 6'1" | PG Ankeny Centennial | 2024 State IA (Centennial)
Winkel impressed with his ability to break down the defense and get to the rim, where he showed himself to be a strong finisher with either hand. He was also impressive on the defensive end, positioning himself well off the ball and really making opposing ball-handlers work hard when he was defending on the ball.
