Tony continues Kentucky Top 250 Expo coverage with this piece on the top defenders from the event. Many of these guys showed they can defend on ball and understand ball movements in help side situations. Some showed vocality and others just straight hustle. See who these top performers are below.

[player_tooltip player_id="1203203" first="Mason" last="Thornhill"] (2022) 5’11 Greenwood

Thornhill Is one of the quickest on-ball defenders on display last weekend. Incredibly quick footwork and moves laterally to stop the ball entirely. Covers a lot of ground on the help side and back side. Contests for 50/50 balls and unafraid to get physical going for loose balls. Very intriguing and hard working guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1221417" first="Javier" last="Ward"] (2023) 5’7 Holy Cross

Incredibly quick guard that makes a mark on both ends of the floor. Gets to his spots defensively and plays good help side defense. Moves well on the perimeter and showed he can guard guys bigger than him. Only a junior and could be an in-state target as he adds to his frame and grows.

[player_tooltip player_id="1229131" first="Max" last="Green"] (2024) 6’4 Oldham County

Green sits down on the defensive end and showed a willingness to defend multiple positions. Smart defender and jumps passing lanes. Creates turnovers with the athleticism and long arms. Smart player that shows it on both ends of the floor. As he adds to his offensive game he could see his recruitment begin to increase.

[player_tooltip player_id="1288970" first="Taveon" last="Smith"] (2024) 6’2 North Hardin

Smith works his tail off on the defensive end of the floor. Great movement on the perimeter matched with blazing speed and quickness. Very athletic playmaker that can shutdown a perimeter player. I like his size for a sophomore and intrigued to see how his game evolves the next 2 years.

[player_tooltip player_id="1199864" first="Corey" last="Brown"] (2022) 6’0 North Hardin

Brown did something no one else did the entire day Saturday...he talked on defense. Very vocal on his ball movement and help side. Tough fighting through screens and defending the perimeter. Good elevation and athleticism. College coaches at the D3 level should be all over him.
