Turning Heads Over The Weekend
There were too many players stepping up for just 1 article, so here is Part 2 of Players Turning Heads Over The Weekend:
Jalen Jackson (2022, PG, Michigan Goonies, Lake Shore)
Don’t let Jackson fly under the radar because he has been playing some really strong basketball. He averaged 17.6 points per game over the weekend. Jackson was named a top performer on the Prep Hoops Circuit.
Jalen Overway Jalen Overway 6'8" | PF Holland Christian | 2022 State MI (2022, C, MBA Lakeshore, Holland Christian)
Overway might have influenced his future more than anyone in the state this summer. He did it again as his team won the Gold Bracket at Brawl For The Ball. He continues to be an impact player on both ends of the floor. Overway’s mere prescience in the lane steers traffic away from the rim.
Andrew Smith Andrew Smith 6'2" | CG Orchard Lake St. Mary's | 2024 State MI (2024, G, REACH Legends, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)
Smith played a key role in REACH’s Adidas Gold title in Omaha. He flaunted a a nice upside as a young and talented prospect. Smith is another player in the OLSM pipeline with a very bright future ahead.
Anthony Sydnor III Anthony Sydnor III 6'3" | PG Muskegon | 2023 State MI (2023, SG, UTS Elite, Muskegon)
Sydnor Jr. is seeing his game really come together this spring and summer. It was exemplified at the Grassroots Showdown. He’s shown elite athleticism and an understanding of when and where to cut to the rim. Sydnor Jr. is finishing strong at the rim with excellent body control.
Xavier Thomas Xavier Thomas 6'6" | PF Brother Rice | 2023 State MI (2023, G/F, Bates Fundamentals, Brother Rice)
Thomas is having a big time weekend against big time competition on a big time stage. He’s put his name on the map in the state, the Midwest, and possibly beyond that. Thomas is the definition of positionless basketball. He impacted games from everywhere on the court on both ends of the floor. Versatile 2 way players are very valuable and Thomas is just that.
Jack Yanachik Jack Yanachik 6'1" | SF Warren De La Salle | 2023 State MI (2023, G/F, North Oakland Wolfpack, De La Salle)
Yanachik was a consistent scoring threat for the 16u Wolfpack squad at Brawl For The Ball. He showed off an underrated vertical game which included an 18 rebound outing against IE Team Focus Black.
