The 2024 class is eager to hit the ground running, eager to impress college coaches. The rising sophomore class is filled with guards who are ready to take on a bigger scoring role in their second high school season. Here are the top 2024 guards who could take a big jump in 2022.
Elijah Brown Elijah Brown 6'4" | SG Life Center Academy | 2025 State NJ , 6’3 SG St. Augustine
The Hermits are one of the top programs in South Jersey, but they should still get a big jolt from Brown this season. The 6’3 guard does not mind diving on the floor for loose balls and plays with energy every time he is in the game. Brown is a good all-around defender as he moves his feet on the ball, slides over for defensive rotations and gets deflections. He understands how to move off the ball, allowing him to get easy baskets around the rim. Brown is a high-energy glue guy that should have a big role in St. Augustine’s attack this season.
Ryan Frauenheim Ryan Frauenheim 5'10" | PG Manasquan | 2024 State NJ , 5’10 PG Manasquan
Frauenheim has had a strong start to the summer with Team Rio University, which should translate into a big sophomore season with Manasquan. The 5’10 guard plays with composure on the ball and is looking to get his teammates involved in the half court. Frauenheim has a nice handle, which he uses to get into the lane to make plays. He has a quick release on his jumper and is a tough on-ball defender. Frauenheim is the perfect compliment to Ben Roy Ben Roy 6'2" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State #218 Nation NJ in the backcourt as the duo look to lead Manasquan to another Central Jersey Group 3 title.
Peyton Seals Peyton Seals 6'4" | SG Ramapo | 2024 State NJ , 6’3 SG Ramapo
Seals is a breakout candidate to watch in Bergen County as he gets more touches on the offensive end. The 6’3 guard has a clean shooting stroke and can knock down triples in bunches. Seals is more than just a shooter as he can beat his defender off the bounce and finish around the rim. He can run the offense in a pinch and is an underrated rebounder. Seals’ ability to score at multiple levels is something that will help his stock as he shoulders a bigger scoring load for Ramapo.
Peter Noble Peter Noble 6'2" | PG CBA | 2024 State NJ , 6’2 PG CBA
Noble has yet to play a varsity minute for the Colts, but that will change this season. The 6’2 guard is a confident shooter from distance as he is unafraid of pulling up for jumpers well behind the line. Noble can get to the rim and is able to finish through contact around the basket. He is an underrated passer and makes plays on the defensive end. Noble is a skilled lead guard who is a breakout candidate to watch in the Shore Conference.
Merle Hans Merle Hans 5'10" | PG Wildwood | 2024 State NJ , 5’10 PG Wildwood
Hans had a good debut season for Wildwood and is ready shoulder a larger scoring role in 2022. The 5’10 guard is at his best attacking the basket where he is a good finisher around the rim and does not mind drawing contact. Hans is more than just a driver as he has a nice release on his jumper and can knock down open shots from behind the arc. He plays with quick hands on the defensive end and rarely makes bad decisions with the ball in his hands. Hans had a pair of 20-point games in his first varsity season, which he should eclipse during his second season with Wildwood.
