The Undiscovered Showcase is the top event in the state for uncommitted senior prospects. What prospects made the most of the opportunity? Here are the top guards in Undiscovered Showcase: Top Wings and Posts!

Gabriel Wright Proviso East 6’5

Wright was one of the better players in the first session. He started out with making a couple shots from three and then he began to attack the rim with straight line drives and athletic finishes. Gabriel did a good job at adjusting to the defense and making plays. Wright played hard for most of the session and could be a steal for any school.

[player_tooltip player_id="921050" first="Terrance" last="Young"] De La Salle 6’4

Young made a couple plays in the early session. He’s a solid wing who has good footwork and feel for the game. He made a couple spin moves in the lane for finishes at the rim. Terrance has good form on his shot but spent a lot of his time in the paint and not roaming the perimeter.

Brandon Brown Julian 6’4

Thin and agile wing who seemed to always make the right extra pass. Brandon can guard 1 through 3 positions on the court. When looking to score he made a few baseline jumpers. When double teamed, he split the defense and hit a runner. Solid small school potential player

[player_tooltip player_id="1105727" first="AJ" last="Wells"] Homewood Flossmoor 6’6

AJ has a college ready body right now and used it to his advantage. Wells runs floor well and gets off his feet very quick. He rebounds in and outside of his own area. AJ’s wide shoulders help him keep players on his back when battling on the boards. Wells caught a couple of dunks off passes from teammates. Didn’t see much of him playing out of the post or any faceup game but with his motor and agility most coaches should be reaching out to AJ.

[player_tooltip player_id="821756" first="Jeffrey" last="Oakley"] Corliss. 6’5

Oakley is a competitor who plays with a constant motor and very rarely takes plays off. Jeffrey made his mark on the defensive end playing passing lanes and hounding guards on and off the ball. Even in a showcase setting this kid played winning basketball. Jeffrey showed good range on his shot by making a couple three pointers but didn’t settle for jump shots. As a solid athlete also made several plays at the rim to show he is a versatile forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="821759" first="Taijon" last="Barry"] Eisenhower 6’5

Barry had some great moments on Saturday. He got out in transition quick scoring in different fashions at the rim. He has good body control and uses his IQ to beat defenders. Taijon can score on all three levels, but does most of his damage from the wing and mid-range. Barry is a solid rebounder who can occasionally bring the ball up the court. Small school prospect that can become an player impact as he gets stronger.

[player_tooltip player_id="920982" first="Gary" last="Johns"] Westinghouse 6’7

Long and agile Johns had a good start to his showcase. He made shots early on a couple pull up three pointers with defenders in his face. Gary is more of a wing than a post player as he can defend 3 through 5. Still needing to add some strength Johns competes hard on the boards and does a good job at timing blocks. As a wing he shows good form on his shot and solid ball skills to play on the perimeter. Colleges looking for a big wing or stretch forward Gary is the one.

[player_tooltip player_id="921019" first="Damarcies" last="Moore"] 6’5 Longwood

Moore is a very active wing who fits a 3 and D mold. He makes shots when left open and has the tools to put it on the ground when players crowd him. Damarcies is so active which is what makes it hard to contain him. He is at his best when he gets steals and turns them into transition buckets. Moore has a few small school offers, but should have more.

Fawaz Surakat Sullivan 6’8

Surakat is long slender big man that can really change any game around the rim. He’s a dive and dunk big man which is always works well with a good passing guards. Fawaz rebounds out of his area and uses his length when protecting the rim. Surakat is a prospect who coaches should entertain because to go along with his tremendous upside Fawaz’s soccer background has been major factor for many big men in the past.

Joseph Atlilano Christian Life 6’9

Atlilano is long solid big man who is still raw in some areas offensively but does a good job at protecting the rim on defense. Joseph plays tall and detours shots when in his area. He has good reflexes for a big. Joseph rebounds in his area and can occasionally push the ball after grabbing a rebound. Atlilano made a couple over the right shoulder shots from out of the post. Small colleges looking for a big should monitor Joseph.

The Undiscovered Showcase is an event I look forward to covering each year. Dan Poneman has done a great job year after year with helping seniors and mostly small school coaches bridge the gap in Chicago with recruiting. Thanks again to him and all the great people who continue to help this event flourish each year.
