Parents of forwards and centers quickly learn that young guards, especially young guards playing in front of or for college scouts don’t like to pass or include bigs. Despite that massive hindrance, these players shone brightly over the weekend.
Somto Cyril (Hamilton Heights Christian Academy / EAB 17u – 2024)
Somto showed solid balance. He played composed under the rim. Didn’t rush his shots or force anything. Strong legs. Not fast, but certainly capable of keeping up with 17u play despite giving up two years of age to the vets.
Jarred Hall Jarred Hall 6'8" | SF Lebanon | 2023 State #65 Nation TN (Lebanon / EAB 16u – 2023)
Majestic, agile, fast. In one single defensive play, one that is quite a microcosm of his weekend, Jarred Hall Jarred Hall 6'8" | SF Lebanon | 2023 State #65 Nation TN slickly slid his feet on the perimeter, thwarting a bubbling, hopeful penetrator. Seconds later, as the ball dropped into the post, Hall again found himself as the on-ball defender. He quickly sprung high and whacked the ball out-of-bounds. The defensive versatility reflects the fantastic athleticism and physical gifts of Jarred Hall Jarred Hall 6'8" | SF Lebanon | 2023 State #65 Nation TN .
Lincoln Aholt Lincoln Aholt 6'7" | PF Brentwood Academy | 2023 TN (Stars Basketball Club 16u – 2023)
Technically sound. Aholt was a young star within the program the last two years and now undeniably looks the part of a college prospect. Facing AC Georgia, a middling Atlanta program, Aholt managed 8 points on four buckets in the second half. Aholt’s team outscored AC Georgia 40-21 in the second half. Solid rebounder and good two-leg leaper.

Isaiah Jones Isaiah Jones 6'8" | SF Arlington | 2021 State TN (PSB 17u – 2021 unsigned)
During his first season with Arlington, Isaiah Jones Isaiah Jones 6'8" | SF Arlington | 2021 State TN played wonderfully. Arlington pulled in Isaiah from East Nashville High where he was a Class AA State Qualifier in 2020. Jones is an elite wing scorer at 6-foot-8. Ran with PSB this weekend. No matter where Isaiah goes (after East Nashville) he inevitably gets stuck in the lane on offense. Jones can score the ball from 15-18’, but too often gets shoved into the paint. He can hit the pull-up, bury the deep ball, or score in the paint. His ceiling is D1 basketball, but the D1 offers have not arrived yet. Look for Jones to land possibly beneath his level and grind his way up the basketball ladder to a larger school late in his college career.
Walker Kyle (BMaze Bivens-17u)
The flow of the BMaze Bivens versus Team Breakdown-VA game didn’t really favor Walker’s style too well, but still the forward thrived making skip passes and even closing out wing attackers. His court vision and unselfish play complimented the scorers nicely.
