Continue ReadingWe took a trip down to Lake Point Sports Complex in Georgia for a big time event in the Breakout Exposure, an Adidas affiliated event. It featured some of the top Adidas programs from across the country, and many of the top prospects in the country in many of the classes. We checked out teams from multiple areas, and start with our part four of the many standouts, looking at some of the top players from the east to the west coast that we got a chance to see.
Devin Ceaser | 6’2” PG | New World 17U ’22
Ceaser continues to show that he deserves to be recruited at a higher level, as the 6’2” lead guard is someone who can flat out make things happen with his speed, athleticism and ever improving skill set. He sets the tone on both ends as he can guard 94 feet and is quick enough to jump passing lanes to get easy baskets in transition, he lives in the lane with his quickness and he can make shots from deep once he starts cooking. He’s able to make plays that others simply can’t make, and while there are other highly touted guys on his team he’s the one who can make things happen when his team really needs a play made.
Tyrell Ward Tyrell Ward 6'7" | SF DeMatha | 2022 State #56 Nation MD | 6’6” WF | New World 17U ’22
Ward continues to show that he’s turning the corner as a legitimate top 60 prospect, as he has improved so much over the past two years and now is capable of doing a little bit of everything as a 6’6” wing. He’s long and athletic and can guard multiple positions, he’s able to play both on and off the basketball to make plays and he’s equally effective as a scorer as he is in setting up guys as well. He’s very good in the pick-and-roll, he can make shots from every level and he will fit in multiple systems and multiple roles at the next level.
Favour Aire Favour Aire 6'10" | C Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #86 Nation MD | 6’10” C | New World 17U ’22
Aire is one of the top big men on the east coast and is still somehow underrated in my opinion, as I don’t think people realize how skilled he really is. While his ability to rebound, protect the rim and run the floor will immediately stand out, his ability to catch in the post and score over either shoulder or make a good pass out of a double team is very impressive as well. He’s a big and strong body in the post, he has good footwork and he impacts the game just by his presence around the rim on both ends of the floor.
Julian Phillips | 6’8” F | Upward Stars 17U ’22
Phillips, who is considered a top 50 prospect in most national rankings, showed tons of versatility and upside to show why many consider him to be that good, as it’s as much what he can be as what he is now. He’s a very strong and athletic forward that can play and guard both on the wing and in the post, he rebounds well and can push in transition and he showed the ability to make shots from multiple levels as well. He has a very high ceiling as he already has a good base skill set but still has plenty of room to grow moving forward, and he can already make an impact at the next level on the defensive end and as a secondary option but has star potential moving forward.
Koren Johnson Koren Johnson 6'3" | SG Wasatch Academy | 2022 #83 Nation WA | 6’1” PG | Dream Vision 17U ’22
Johnson was probably my favorite player at the Exposure Breakout that I hadn’t seen yet, as the guard out of Garfield HS in Washington was a flat out cold killer every time he stepped on the floor. Usually I’m not a west coast guy, but I found myself gravitating toward his court to watch him just make defenders look silly time and time again, and show that despite not being the biggest guy he can dominate games both with his scoring ability and his ability to make others better as well. He’s smooth and shifty off the bounce, he can make contested shots from multiple levels and he has a toughness where he just comes at you time and time again.
Zach Keller | 6’10” C | Utah Prospects 17U ’22
Keller is a very intriguing big man that will be highly recruited for certain systems as he has a mix of skill, size and athleticism that makes him very productive across the board. He’s a high motor guy who rebounds well on both ends and runs the floor hard, he can stretch the floor and make shots from deep and is also a physical presence in the paint. His ability to be a mismatch and also do the dirty work and how hard he works on both ends of the floor makes him a very productive guy that is tough to match up with.
Collin Chandler Collin Chandler 6'5" | CG Farmington | 2022 State #28 Nation UT | 6’4” WG | Utah Prospects 17U ’22
Chandler is one of the top prospects on the west coast and showed that with his perimeter skill set and ability to knock down shots from deep with his size. He’s a high IQ guy who knows how to work off the basketball to get open and he can set his feet and let it fly with a quick release, he can attack closeouts and get to the spots he needs to and he’s a crafty and athletic finisher around the rim as well.
Quin Meza | 6’0” PG | Utah Prospect 16U ’23
Meza isn’t a guy that you would immediately look at on the court and think that he would be one of the best players on the court, but when I watched them against Team Loaded VA he showed he’s an absolute bucket getter and a floor general as well. The 6’0” lead guard has a lot of savvy to his game, he can get to his spots whenever he wants and he can make shots from multiple levels off the bounce and off the catch. He’s a high IQ guy who makes good reads and sets the tone on both ends, and he’s just a fun guy to watch if you’re a fan of the game being played the right way.
