The mature 6-foot-1 point guard will be making his high school debut at Roosevelt this season and he’ll do so with much fanfare. Hill has already earned his very first college scholarship offer, but he remains humble as he hopes the hard work he put in this past year will show off in high school varsity ball.
“I’ve just been working on my game, trying to strengthen my weaknesses and getting stronger to play with older kids,” Hill said. “I’m working on my game a lot and working my strength really.”
Hill described what he hopes to bring to the table for the Roughriders this season. “I just want to be a calm point guard that gets my teammates involved,” Hill said. “I can score when I need to but I like to first get my teammates involved first so I get my game going. I’m a pass-first point guard.”
One of the ways Hill has made a name for himself has been playing club basketball. He got a chance to showcase himself playing with Northwest Athletics at a couple of tournaments this winter. “It was good for me playing up at 17U, just getting experinece to play against varsity,” Hill said. “It was good so I can be ready.”
Word has gotten around quickly about Hill’s play and he recently picked up his very first scholarship offer from Portland and brand new Pilots head coach Shantay Legans. “It’s a pretty exciting achievement,” Hill said. “It’s exciting that they see my potential and hopefully I can get some more offers down the road.”
While Hill likes how Portland is close to home, it’s obviously very early. He notes that his dream school is Duke but he’s keeping all of his options open. “Any offer really means something to me,” Hill said.
“I feel like we should do good as we’ve got some really good players this year,” Hill said. “I feel like if we have a state title we can get it, but we should have a good year this year.”
