Cyril vs Lomega
Another upset here as #9 Cyril caught fire against #4 Lomega. After a close, hard fought first quarter, Cyril’s Ryan Hart blew the doors off in the second. Hart got hot from deep and knocked down for triples… in the second quarter alone. That propelled Cyril to a huge 15 point lead at halftime and they never looked back. Riley Lumpkin and Noah Snowden did their best to keep Lomega in this game, with big minutes from Dilon Fisher as well but it wasn’t enough. Lumpkin had a big second half and was a key catalyst to any Lomega success today. The duo of Hayden Big Soldier and Ryan Hart, both averaging 16 PPG on the season, were too much firepower. Hart finished with six total threes and 20 points, leading Cyril to the big upset win over Lomega.
Roff vs Tyrone
While Roff ended up getting the win, this game had upset potential the throughout the entirety of it. Tyrone tried to go to their star player early and often with Roberto Hernandez. The 6’5 junior has the body of a strong post but can play like a guard and displayed that today. Roff, however, was loaded with four seniors including a star player in Trayson Miller. After a first half buzzer beater, Tyrone led this game at the break. They were forcing Roff into taking threes and Roff simply couldn’t hit. In the second half, Roff seemed calm and patient. They waited for shots they liked, and a good amount of those ended up being Coby Simon three pointers. He caught fire in the third quarter, yet Roff still trailed by one. Roff won this game because of grittiness and offensive rebounding in the fourth quarter. In a tough fought game, a lineup full of seniors and Trayson Miller took care of business. Miller played great, scoring from all levels as he has done all season. The 6’4 senior had another impressive showing. When asked about Miller, Roff Coach Larry Johnston answered, saying “Anytime we’ve got #20, we feel pretty confident.” #2 Roff was able to shield off Tyrone 43-40.
