Continue ReadingIt was a joint workout for the Norcross Heat Sunday with the 2023s joined by Marshawn Hampton’s new 2022 bunch, and the team is populated by a ton of under-the-radar guys that we’ll be sure to highlight more as the season gets rolling.
Let’s look 4 who stood out Sunday:
Caleb Smith Caleb Smith 6'2" | CG Therrell | 2022 State GA , SF, Southwest DeKalb (pictured above)
Unfortunately for the Panthers they played a sporadic, incomplete season, which I’m sure made it difficult for scouts and the like to track the progress of what is historically a solid program with good depth of talent. With only 3 seniors, this is surely a team to watch next year in what we expect will be a non-Covid environment, and Smith will be among those to watch for sure. He jumped out to me within just a few minutes with his all-around game – really nice touch from out as far as the arc, great power off the dribble attacking the basket, big-time lift at 6-3 that seems surprising until he’s already over top of you, and great energy and enthusiasm to be on the floor, a trait often minimized in evaluations. Should be a fun one to watch.
Kaheen Parks, SF, Rockdale County
It was immediately hard to miss the athletic talents of Parks, as he took to the drills like it was a slam-dunk competition on All-Star Weekend, that high-rising combines with a great and infectious energy, and at 6-6 he can simply beat you to the rim on his inherent gifts alone, so when the game gets into the open or is able to flourish in areas where he’s comfortable catching it this should be a hidden gem out of Conyers to watch.
Marquez Harris, PF, Meadowcreek
Reminds me a lot of Mustang teammate Dayton Richardon with similar size at 6-6, frame and athletic ability, his game is still progressing but you can see with the superb movement and lift that he can affect the game as a rebounder right off the jump, as a finisher right around the basket he has tools and it will be a lot of fun to see his game mature further from the basket, could be a 2022 that takes a monster step this summer heading into next fall.
Michael Feinberg, PF, Milton
Speaks to the depth of nationally-ranked Milton that a 6-7 stretch-4 with skills cannot break into the rotation, but when you’re 25-2 with two All-Americans in your starting lineup (another likely to be considered, and a football All-American who can flat out ball), such is the station for Feinberg, he’ll have a really nice opportunity with the Heat to show his stuff this summer, a mix of back-to-the-basket creativity and face-up shooting, a monster summer and even with virtually the whole team back for the Eagles next year he may force his way into another nationally-ranked lineup.
