Many of these such talents are capable of playing multiple positions or can take on an array of assignments on both ends of the floor. These four 2023 players fit the bill of being a versatile player for their respective teams.
TJ Waters — Valley Christian
TJ Waters stands out for his effort on the defensive side of the ball. For a 5’11″ guard, he is one player who is simply an annoyance for opposing guards. Waters does well to often apply formidable ball pressure, which can prevent opposing ball handlers from operating with a multitude of open space in the vicinity. Waters simply exerts excellent effort on defense. He has quality tracking speed, which helps when defending transition sequences.
Waters will be a defender to watch in the Olympic League. As he continues to add core strength and develop his defensive prowess, he can be one whom Valley Christian can regularly rely upon in crunch time situations to take on the opposing top scoring guard.
EJ Bryson — Pacifica Christian
EJ Bryson is one guard with tremendous potential on the offensive end of the floor. The 5’10” guard is quite comfortable when on the ball and is one proficient ball-handler. He certainly has a good feel for the game and simply looks to contribute where needed. More so, he has the ability to create his own shot, whether when driving to the rim or when coming off screens. The guard already has a promising offensive arsenal that will only make him a lethal player when on the ball.
Bryson has what it takes to be an instant offense player for the Tritons where he can be relied on to drop double-digits in points on any given night.
LaQwon Cole — Serra
LaQwon Cole is one player who any coach can rely on to sub into a game for an instant spark on either end of the floor. For one, the 6’0″ guard plays with tremendous intensity over on the defensive side of the ball thanks to his sheer will to create turnovers and patience to wait for the opportune time to jump in front of passing lanes. With his notable length and wingspan, he can be a menace for opposing ball handlers to haul in steals at any time.
On the offensive side of the ball, he runs possessions fairly well when he gets the opportunity to do so. He is unselfish on the ball and ambitious to involve teammates in offensive possessions. Overall, shooting will be an aspect of play to watch for this season from Cole.
Thomas Luczak — Village Christian
Thomas Luczak has much promise as a versatile two-way player. On the defensive end, Luczak has found a pivotal role in hovering over the low post. He is one player who provides for tremendous effort in rebound battles and when drifting away from the paint to contest perimeter shots from an opponent. Even at 6’2”, Luczak displays keen awareness in this area of the floor. On offense, Luczak often spaces the floor rather than remaining stagnant in the low post. Where he adds another dimension to the offense is by moving out on the corners.
High effort and persistence well define Luczak’s overall play.
