To preview the upcoming high school basketball season, Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at some of the state’s top sophomores:

First Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="953944" first="Milan" last="Momcilovic"] -- 6-foot-7 -- SF -- Pewaukee

Momcilovic was very productive as a freshman at Pewaukee. The fastly developing small forward scored 14.8 points per game while leading the Pirates to a 15-9 record. In the 2020-21 season, look for Momcilovic to make the jump from good to great.

[player_tooltip player_id="953945" first="Mac" last="Wrecke"] -- 6-foot-3 -- SG -- Arrowhead

Playing on one of the better teams in the state last season, I was really impressed with Wrecke’s ability to play his role. Of course, he wasn’t the top guy, but the SG did a great job of doing whatever he was asked to do. This season, Wrecke could be the top prospect for Arrowhead.

[player_tooltip player_id="951467" first="Prentice" last="Young"] -- 6-foot-4 -- PG -- Wisconsin Lutheran

Young has high major Division One potential. The 6-foot-4 point guard is an athletic player who is a terrific isolation scorer. With more opportunities available in his sophomore season, I think that Young will be able to become one of the top scorers in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="953943" first="John" last="Kinziger"] -- 5-foot-11 -- CG -- De Pere

Speaking of top scorers, when it is all said and done, Kinziger could be the best bucket-getter in Wisconsin. As a freshman, he dropped 16.5 points per game. He doesn’t have the size, but there is no doubt that Kinziger has the skill.

Deshawn Webb -- 6-foot-3 -- SG -- Living World Lutheran

Webb was super impressive during the 2020 summer AAU season. In his second high school campaign, I think that the shooting guard will pick up where he left off. The Living World Lutheran prospect is a long, athletic guard who will make a great college player.

Second Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="981038" first="Demerius" last="Shakur"] -- 6-foot-2 -- CG -- Martin Luther

I really liked what Shakur showed while playing with Wisconsin Playground Club in AAU. The combo guard played tough defense, pushed the pace in transition, and didn’t make too many mistakes. If Shakur is able to score the ball a bit more, then he could develop into a star.

Bennett McCormick -- 6-foot-2 -- SG -- Catholic Memorial

McCormick didn’t have a huge freshman season in terms of numbers. But he did do a terrific job of making an impact this past summer on the Prep Hoops Circut. He is an athletic prospect who can shoot it well from outside.

[player_tooltip player_id="963148" first="Cal" last="Klesmit"] -- 6-foot-1 -- CG -- Neenah

Cal -- the younger brother of Wofford freshman [player_tooltip player_id="544541" first="Max" last="Klesmit"] -- will look to make an impact for a talented Neenah squad as a sophomore. The combo guard is a very good passer and shooter. Expect the lefty to make a name for himself in the 2020-21 season.

[player_tooltip player_id="981000" first="Riley" last="Brooks"] -- 6-foot-4 -- SG-- Ripon

From what I have seen on film, Brooks could be in for a breakout season as a sophomore. With the ball in his hands, Brooks is very dangerous due to his ability to score at all three levels. As a freshman, he averaged just under 12 points per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="980996" first="Robert" last="Peeters"] -- 6-foot-7 -- PF -- West Allis Hale

Peeters might have the highest upside out of all the prospects in the 2023 class. He is a lanky power forward that can block shots and score really well around the rim. Look to see the West Allis Hale prospect make a lot of improvements this season.

Third Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="951132" first="Braylen" last="Blue"] -- 6-foot-3 -- PG -- Madison Memorial

Because he didn’t get the chance to play in the AAU season, Blue did not get the opportunity to raise his stock. However, that does not mean that the point guard has not caught the eyes of college programs. He recently snagged a scholarship offer from Washington.

[player_tooltip player_id="981021" first="Ashe" last="Oglesby"] -- 6-foot-6 -- PF -- The Prairie School

Playing up with a 17U squad this summer, I was really impressed with Oglesby’s physical stature and basketball skill. He was strong enough to hold up in the paint and talented enough to make some nice plays around the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="963146" first="Logan" last="Arndt"] -- 6-foot-2 -- SG -- Oconomowoc

Arndt earned a spot on this third team with his terrific summer. Playing with ABC Young Lions on the Prep Hoops Circuit, the shooting guard played with great effort and had no quit in him. In his sophomore campaign, look for Arndt to be a nice addition to Oconomowoc.

[player_tooltip player_id="963145" first="Landon" last="Key"] -- 6-foot-3 -- SF -- Wisconsin Lutheran

I think that Wisconsin Lutheran could have a really special player in Key. The 6-foot-3 prospect is a bit undersized for the small forward position, but what he lacks in size, he makes up with skill. The SF is a pure scorer that can fill it up from all three levels.

[player_tooltip player_id="953956" first="Luther" last="Smith"] -- 5-foot-11 -- SG -- Sussex Hamilton

Because Sussex Hamilton was so loaded last season, Smith didn’t really get a chance to make his mark. But after the Chargers lost a couple of players to graduation, I think that the shooting guard now will have a chance to earn some more playing time.
