Maurice Hines Maurice Hines 6'3" | SF Ben L. Smith | 2021 State NC | 6’3 | 2021 Guard/Forward | Blue Chip Cavaliers (Ben L. Smith)
Hines is a versatile prospect at 6-foot-3 that does a lot of the dirty work on the floor. He defends inside and outside, battles on the boards and always finds a way to make his impact felt. His effort on both ends stands out more than anything on the hardwood. He finished the weekend averaging 18.3 ppg while also knocking down seven free throws. He should be an unsigned senior name to watch at Ben L. Smith.
Chris Britt Chris Britt 5'10" | PG Ashbrook | 2022 State NC | 5’9 | 2022 Guard | Carolina Flames (Gaston Day)
Britt is one of those guards with sneaky bounce but given his physical stature and strength, it’s not surprising how athletic he is. He’s caught my eye on a few occasions but with the Carolina Flames, he’s shown he’s back at his optimal pre-COVID status, showing off his speed on the defensive end and on the fast break while also getting to the paint and finishing over bigger defenders. He’s a prospect in the 2022 class due for more attention soon at Gaston Day.
Bobby Cannon Jr Bobby Cannon Jr 6'10" | PF Forsyth Country Day | 2024 State NC | 6’6 | 2023 Forward/Wing | Carolina Zoom (Quality Education)
Cannon was an impressive threat on the hardwood for Carolina Zoom on the wing at Big Shots Rock Hill Hoopfest. He’s a 6-foot-6 wing/forward prospect that showed promise shooting the 3-ball and attacking the ball. Given his size and length, he was quick to turn heads all weekend long. He knocked down six 3-pointers while putting up 13.7 ppg and showing off his ability to rebound the ball in bunches. He’s a new face to track at Quality Education Academy.
Amari Tate Amari Tate 5'6" | PG Northeast Guilford | 2023 State NC | 5’5 Guard | 2023 | Mid State Magic Basketball Club (Northeast Guilford)
Tate played up on the 17U Orange Division and didn’t show any signs of slowing down, averaging 19.3 ppg (4th in the division) and finishing with 16 made free throws (4th in the division) while knocking down six 3-pointers. He’s got a fearless ability to get to the paint and make things happen right away when he’s on the floor. He’s a rising sophomore prospect to keep an eye on at Northeast Guilford.
McCaskill Rivers McCaskill Rivers 6'4" | SF East Gaston | 2023 State NC | 6’4 | 2023 Forward | CB Hoops (West Charlotte)
Rivers When he’s aggressive, especially on the perimeter, he’s a prospect that can fill it up in a hurry and increase the scoring margin in a big way. He’s got nice size and a frame that allows him to play the forward spot as well, making him a solid inside-out presence on both ends. Defensively, he’s got the mobility to defend virtually any position. When he’s locked in, he’s fun to watch. He was one of three players in the 15U Orange division with seven 3-pointers made.
Dawson Wagner | 6’0 | 2023 Guard | Moravian Prep Regional
Wagner is a new face in the Moravian Prep rotation and due to make waves with his ability to always find a way to get open for scores on all three levels. He’s got a solid knack for where the ballhandler is moving against the defense, spacing out well for easy shots on the perimeter and backdoor cuts in the halfcourt. He’s just scratching the surface of what he’s capable of.
Zy’lee Bazemore Zy’lee Bazemore 5'8" | SG Bertie | 2023 State NC | 5’8 | 2023 Shooting Guard | NC Breakers (Bertie)
Bazemore was a sharpshooter that showed the genes don’t fall too far from the tree. He’s the nephew of Sacramento Kings guard Kent Bazemore and showed off his 3-point shooting prowess this past weekend at Big Shots Rock Hill Hoopfest. He knocked a division-leading eight 3-pointers in the 15U Blue Division to pace the NC Breakers and averaged 16.5 ppg on the weekend. He’s a speedy guard that can get going in a hurry on all three levels, as he showed this past weekend.
Jewell Coston Jewell Coston 5'10" | CG Holmes | 2021 State NC | 5’10| 2021 Guard | NC Breakers (Holmes)
Coston is a new face that made waves at John A. Holmes this past season, producing 11.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.1 apg and 2.2 spg as a junior in 2019-20. He’s carried a lot of that over to the grassroots scene with NC Breakers, where he led the 17U Blue Division in scoring (25.0 ppg) and total points (75) as they went 2-1 on the weekend. He’s an aggressive scoring guard that can fill it up in a variety of ways. He’s an unsigned name in the 252 area.
