On November 13-14 I attended the second annual Attitude is Free Classic at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

There were many Post-Grad and Prep teams across the country who participated in the 3-day event.

There were some high level players in attendance and many looking for scholarships as every game was live streamed on BallerTV.

Here were some of the 2022 standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="701245" first="Mekhi" last="Mason"] AZ Compass Prep

-A long combo guard can play on or off the ball. He is a good defender who rebounds at a high rate. He defends multiple positions and gets many steals and deflections per game. He has a nice pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and his bounce keeps coming on as he is getting older.

[player_tooltip player_id="701244" first="Nate" last="Pickens"] AZ Compass Prep

-A sharp shooter who is improving other parts of his game. He is an improved passer and digs in on defense hard. He still has that nice pull-up from mid to the 3. Look for him and Mason to break out next year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1030345" first="Chase" last="Mayo Harmon"] Glenview College Prep

-A consistent performer who always seems to shoot the ball at a high level. He has a quick trigger and is ultra confident. He has nice athleticism and brings energy on the defensive end. He can grab rebounds out of area and plays the right way.

[player_tooltip player_id="827012" first="Josh" last="Deakyne"] Heritage Maricopa

-A high IQ pure PG who has an amazing feel for the game. He makes full court Lonzo-Ball type of passes look easy. He whips passes across the court and can drive and kick to a corner shooter. He has a shifty handle to get by his defenders and he is a crafty scorer in the lane. He has deep 3pt shooting range and he took 10+ charges in the 4 games played showcasing his toughness. He just became the first player in program history to reach 500 career points and 150 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id="1016576" first="Brock" last="Heywood"] Heritage Maricopa

-A fast and athletic downhill guard. He has a good burst into the lane and plays very loose. He is an active two way player and smartly moves without the ball. The faster the game is, the better he plays.

[player_tooltip player_id="1078720" first="Trey" last="Pettigrew"] Eduprize

-A bigger highly skilled combo guard has deep range and can size up his man and let it fly. He makes the game look easy in stretches from scoring it, dunking the ball and making slick passes. He can slide over to either guard spot and plays with confidence. He is quick on the ball defensively. The Chicago transfer has really helped the teams depth of an already talented group of guards.

[player_tooltip player_id="1088004" first="Jayce" last="Hyland"] AZ Compass Prep CAA

A pure PG with good speed. He is extremely unselfish and plays controlled and with a purpose. He can make a catch-3 plus get into the lane and score through contact with his sturdy frame.

2023

[player_tooltip player_id="831115" first="Kevin" last="Patton Jr"] AZ Compass Prep CAA

-A long wing shooter can play in space plus defend inside with his 6’11 wingspan. He makes 3’s and takes long strides to the cup to get to the rim. He is a very good passer with his left or right hand and he rebounds and blocks shots well.
