A long wing, Kobe Hussion had some good moments throughout the day. He hit three threes in his first game and finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. He’s got length and some smoothness to his game. He holds value defensively with his size and could help defend multiple positions. He could be a useful piece his senior season.
2021 5-7 PG Jamar Stargell – Newnan
Tough with the ball and with a strong center of gravity, Jamar Stargell wasn’t getting bumped off his path when he attacked the rim. He got to the cup and would absorb contact when bodied by defenders. His ability to get into the paint coupled with his three-point shooting led to a strong Game 1. He hit three three-pointers and finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. I liked how he played the game and was a trustworthy primary ballhandler.
2022 6-1 G Zion Brown – Newnan
Some of the deepest threes at camp were released by Zion Brown. He had the neon green light to pull from almost 25-feet. His shot selection will need to improve, but his confidence bodes well. If he sees one shot drop, more will soon follow. He’s got some length for his size and had a few tough finishes.
2022 6-0 PG Eric Smarr – Newnan
The physical guard stayed aggressive throughout the day, but still managed to get others involved. The lefty is a stout ballhandler that can get to his sweet spots at the mid-range. He displayed good court vision when he wasn’t scoring and fit in some tough passes to open teammates.
2021 6-6 PF Gabe Stepp – Troup County
The stretch-big came out firing from deep to open the day. He got a little trigger happy in his first game and settled too much outside. He’s got a quality skillset however and will be useful in stretching the defense and drawing out shot blockers. In the paint, he has a baby hook that he can turn to on the low block. He blocked a handful of shots throughout the day and did a good job of presenting himself as a safety valve when guards were in trouble.
2021 6-5 PF Carrieun Mathis – South Paulding
Carrieun Mathis got more comfortable as camp went on. The lefty has great length which he uses to rebound and block shots. He altered a good amount of attempts up close with his activity. When switched out on guards, Mathis was able to move his feet and contest jumpers. On offense, he knocked down a three-ball. His shot isn’t a finished product yet, but he can step outside once or twice a game to shoot from distance.
