Terrance Brown of Columbia Heights (5’11, 2022). We have fairly high expectations this year and another reason is junior guard Terrance Brown. If you’ve been in a gym you in the Twin Cities the last 7-8 years you have seen Brown shooting in one way or another. He’s a crafty ball handler, passer, and Browns knocks down open shots with regularity, just like he did on Sunday. Now he’s grown several inches and should step into a bigger role as a junior.
Adam Jenkins of Moorhead (6’7, 2023). The Spuds are full of experienced guards and wings, and based on what saw this weekend, they have a young big that could really help too. What I really like the most about Adam is his activity. At this age with Adam still learning the game, the biggest thing that his team can use is his activity behind the play using that long body to finish at the cup and board. He does a great job in forcing players over his length on the block as well as moving to his help to contest whatever he can. Active rebounder too. Jenkins played for ECI and once that was over his been seeking out any place to play.
Michael Nhial of West Fargo Sheyenne (6’6, 2022). Another ECI player that is seeking out competition if Nhial, the long wing that once again looked very comfortable with the ball. I’m not going to call him a lead guard because that’s not what I see, but we are continually watching Nhial take a d-board or a mistake and push for results. Once again we’ve watched Nhial take the ball out of bounds, move up the floor, put it in the high post or wing, and then work actively off the ball to make a play. At some point the stat stuffing he is doing these fall weekends will become staff stuffing under this winter gym lights during high school games.
Roderick Payne of East Ridge (6’6, 2021). The Raptors simply have size coming up through their system and another one that will move from the JV to minutes is Roderick Payne. Payne is hearing from D3 schools often no and for good reason, he’s an active rebounder that chased down a couple tip dunks this weekend. Good two foot leaper, loved seeing him collect boards with a strong two hands, and finish with a strong two hands. Also had a drop step dunk with one hand that had me concerned about the rim. A very good shoulder drop into his strong finish at the cup.
Jaden Wysocki of Rochester Century (6’6, 2022). Jaden is a long, 6-foot-6 power forward with the potential to become a double-double guy in the Big Nine in the future. Uses that length to deflect passes, to block shots, and to be a defensive pain. Runs fairly well and if the skill continues to develop it will be interesting to see what type of all around prospect Jaden can become. Surely has a chance to be a breakout player in the Big Nine.
