Over this past weekend, PrepHoops Indiana put on their 7th annual Senior Showcase in Fort Wayne, IN. This was a massive event and tons of seniors from 6 different states were able to showoff their talent and skills to over 120 college coaches that watched both in-person and virtually. Over the next few weeks, we are going to breakdown each team and evaluate each player from that team. Today, we look at Team 5.

Team 5:

Don’Ye Johnson – 5’10″ PG 2021 – Mt. Vernon IL:

Johnson is a smaller guard that who has some good on ball IQ. Handles the ball and sees the floor well. Plays like a true lead guard but can score the ball if he needs to as he proved that with 14 points in his third game and 20 points overall. Long term he will probably be on the ball more often than not. Size might limit him but at this event he played hard and had a solid day.

Randy Powell – 6’1″ SG – Batesville IN:

Powell is a smaller shooting guard that has great scoring ability. Real smooth release and does a good job in creating his own shot. One of the best examples of him creating his own shot was a real nice pull-up 15fter where he was able to find the open space to get the shot off. Arguably was one of the more underrated scoring guards of the day as he finished with 25 points. Legit breakout potential in Powell this season.

Gerell Wilson – 6’4″ SF – Fenton IL:

Wilson is a big bodied forward that can play multiple spots. Showed how well he plays the post. Real good rebounder and likes to bang down low on both ends. Not really an elite scorer but can give a team buckets if he needs to. Finished with 15 points on the day. With a little more work, Wilson can be really good at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="921043" first="Trenton" last="Askew"] – 6’5″ SF – Lane Technical IL:

Askew is a long wing that plays smart. Real good in transition and showed that when he stole the ball a few times. Good rebounder and drives the lane well. Needs to probably be a little bit quicker in order to compete at the next level. Overall, he looked to have the potential to end up being a high end scorer in the long term. He finished with 16 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="805162" first="Ryan" last="Suever"] – 6’7″ PF – Ottoville OH:

Suever is a post player that is very skilled. Runs the floor real well even with a huge knee brace on. Real solid on the defensive end and has great shot blocking ability. On offense, he is just a bruiser down low. Finished with 24 points and just looked very solid in all 3 games. Type of big man that can really help a team at the next level with both scoring and defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1053960" first="Sherby" last="Brown"] Jr. – 6’0″ PG – Fenton IL:

Brown is a shorter guard that has some slashing ability. Quick player that can get to the basket. Needs to work a little more on his passing as a couple of them looked lazy. Solid scorer and finished with 20 points. His athleticism and quickness should be the core of what he builds his game around.

Chris Glenn – 6’2″ SG – Thornton Fractional IL:

Glenn is a taller shooting guard that plays well defensively. Did not see a ton on the offensive end as he only finished with 7 points in total. Did have a 3 at one point so it does look like there could be some shooting ability there. Very smart player off the court with a 4.30 GPA average. Good defender but just needs to gets his offense going.

Kaleb Edwards – 6’3″ SG – Guerin Catholic IN:

Edwards has been a player that has been consistently improving. Taller shooting guard that plays with a ton aggressiveness. Best part of what I saw was just how tough he was on the drive to the rim. Not really an outside shooter as it looks like he would rather shoot 15ft and in. Picked up an offer from DePauw so the floodgates could be opening for his recruiting here soon. Edwards finished with 26 points in total.

Tate Ivanyo – 6’3″ SG – Morgan Township IN:

Ivanyo is a taller shooting guard who is very aggressive on both ends. Good rebounder and shoots it well from 15ft. Really solid ball handling for the position and can create off the bounce. Gets to the basket well also. Real smart off the court with 4.25 GPA average. Type of player that could play the 2 or 3 spot at the next level. Ivanyo finished with a nice 20 piece on the day.

[player_tooltip player_id="647244" first="Clayton" last="Maclagan"] – 6’6″ PF – Valparaiso IN:

Maclagan is a big power forward with a lot of explosiveness to his playing style. Has some stretch 4 ability and is able to guard the wing and post spot. Pretty mobile for a big and can be very creative in the post at times. Just a fantastic scorer at all three levels and proved that by dropping 30 points on the day. One of the better big man performances we saw at this showcase.
