These five guys are going to give offenses nothing but headaches when the season gets underway. Check out the top defenders of the classes of 2021 & 2022 from the Top 250 Expo.

[player_tooltip player_id="548997" first="James" last="Henderson"] | 6-9 | Westminster Christian

Already listed as one of the overall high performers of the Expo, the senior forward demonstrated his ability to clog the paint on defense, and be nearly unstoppable on the rebounding front. He shows great patience when timing his jumps to block shots at the rim. One one defensive possession, he was able to swat three shots in a row from right under the rim. Look for Henderson to be a staple for W.C. this upcoming season.

Ebenezer Ogoh | 6-10 | Admiral Farragut

The sheer length of this 2022 forward is going to be an issue for offenses for years to come. Ogoh is able to use his wingspan to clog up passing gaps & make it hard for ball-handlers to drive past him. He has quick hands, and they helped him come away with more than a few pick-pocket steals on the day. Excited to see what’s to come for Ogoh.

[player_tooltip player_id="818691" first="Jeremiah" last="Bannister"] | 6-5 | Oak Ridge

This senior is going to be one of Oakridge’s best defenders for this upcoming year. Bannister was another guy who used his length to his advantage, especially when it came to blocking shots at the rim. Those who chose to drive to the rim were quickly met by his challenge, and I expect to hear of more of that come this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id="712115" first="Justin" last="Abson"] | 6-9 | North Broward Prep

Abson will be going into his junior year this season, and opponents should really respect what this guy has to offer on defense. Abson has some girth to him, it’s really difficult to get past him as a ball-handler on the way to the rim. Though he’s 6’9”, Abson can move laterally pretty quickly and stick with smaller guards if he’s away from the paint. Couple this with his shot-blocking abilities, and look for Abson to be a real issue on D come the start of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="829473" first="Saquan" last="Carswell"] | 6-3 | Springstead

Carswell’s ability to get to sprint the floor and recover in-transition is what makes him so dangerous. Just when you think you have a fast-break layup in the bag, Carswell has the ability catch you slipping and swat your lay off the glass. Loved how active his hands and arms were on D, all while without fouling. Springstead has one frustrating junior on their hands.
