We’ve also taken the liberty of watching many games via live stream and replay during the “new normal.” Here is a look at five wings who respectively improved their stock throughout August.
James Gross Jr. James Gross Jr. 6'3" | CG Rock Creek Christian | 2021 State MD | DC Premier /Rock Creek Christian (MD)
By all accounts, James Gross impressed during various scrimmages that took place last month. He is a versatile wing who jumps off the page because of his athleticism. Gross’ game is about more than just his vertical leap though. He is a strong competitor who plays bigger than his listed height, will rebound out of his area, and can initiate offense because he can consistently create space off the dribble. Gross produces on minimal touches and can ignite the team quickly with his above-the-rim antics.
Xzavier Long Xzavier Long 6'6" | PF VA Academy | 2021 State VA | Prospect U/Virginia Academy (VA)
Long has been a consistent standout performer at the I95 Coalition, particularly because of his effort on defense. He is a menace on that side of the floor who gives max effort on every possession and picks up full court at all times. On the offensive side, you can expect Long to get into the teeth of the defense regularly and make positive plays in the paint.
Wes Peterson Jr. | DC Premier /Bishop O’Connell (VA)
Peterson’s recruitment has been somewhat dormant for a while, but as a result of his stellar play of late, things appear to be trending up. An athletic wing who plays both ends of the floor, he recently picked up an A10 offer from George Mason. One would expect many more schools to potentially enter the Peterson sweepstakes soon.
Zy’Ever Wingfield Zy’Ever Wingfield 6'3" | SF Henrico | 2020 State VA | Team Richmond/Fork Union (VA)
Wingfield has been back at school for a couple of weeks now, but it’s hard to forget the impact he made in Session 1 at I95 Coalition. The broad-shouldered wing is a plus athlete who stands out because of his energy and toughness. He can impact the game in so many ways. Whether it’s on the glass, by scoring the ball, or by playing stingy defense, you can count on Wingfield to give his all.
Mike Woods Mike Woods 6'4" | SF Frederick Douglass | 2021 State MD | DMV Sports Academy/Douglass (MD)
Woods is a hidden gem from PG County that does nothing but produce. We’ve seen this on numerous occasions both with his high school and AAU team. Woods is an ideal modern-day-player with decent size. He can dribble, pass, shoot, rebound, and defend multiple positions.
