Teams and players from several different states were in attendance, but the Sooner State was incredibly well-represented, especially in the 17U division. A bunch of Oklahoma prospects made noise over the course of the tournament. Here are a few prospects that caught my attention:
Sean Pedulla Sean Pedulla 6'1" | PG Edmond Memorial | 2021 State #81 Nation OK | 2021 | 6’1” Point Guard | Team Buddy Buckets | Edmond Memorial HS – Pedulla would be my selection for Tournament MVP. He competed from start to finish in every one of his games and never took a play off, all while leading Team Buddy Buckets to a first place finish in the 17U Passion Bracket. His ability to consistently score in isolation was very impressive. He is super athletic and dangerous when he gets downhill. His body control at the hoop is excellent and he is fearless when it comes to attacking the basket. Additionally, Pedulla showed that he is a steady shooter off the bounce from deep, a generous facilitator, and an engaged defender. This guy has the ‘it’ factor.
Keyondre Young Keyondre Young 6'7" | SF Del City | 2021 State OK | 2021 | 6’7” Small Forward | Oklahoma Swarm Elite 17U | Del City HS – Young is a terrific three-point shooter. He has the size to shoot over the top of defenders closing out on him and a beautiful release on his jumper. He thrives in catch and shoot scenarios and works hard to get open off the ball. The No. 3 ranked player in the state for the class of 2021 is great at recognizing and exploiting zone defenses with his scoring. He can be deadly from the field when he gets it going. The 6-foot-7-inch wing has some playmaking ability too, threading the needle for assists on several occasions.
Ethan Scott Ethan Scott 5'10" | PG Mustang | 2022 State OK | 2022 | 5’10” Combo Guard | Team Buddy Buckets | Mustang HS – Scott was on fire from behind the arc this weekend. He finished his first game of the Southwest Slam with six threes on eight attempts and never seemed to cool off. Despite being under 6 feet tall, he doesn’t need a lot of room to get his shot off. His release is insanely quick and difficult to defend. That said, Scott doesn’t force up many bad shots and plays within the flow of the offense. He did most of his damage shooting from the catch, but he can knock down triples off the bounce as well with some fancy dribble moves. He is an absolute sniper.
Tobias Roland Jr Tobias Roland Jr 6'3" | SG Putnam City North | 2021 State OK | 2021 | 6’4” Shooting Guard | BTR 17U | Putnam City North HS – Roland Jr is a fascinating prospect. He is listed as a shooting guard and he certainly can score the basketball, but he was tearing it up at the Southwest Slam with his passing. He is a generous and gifted facilitator with an outstanding feel for the game. The seventh ranked 2021 prospect in Oklahoma is a quick and smart decision maker on the court. He made some extremely difficult passes look easy. As a scorer, he never looked out of control and consistently got into the teeth of the defense for high-percentage looks. His smooth game and playmaking ability made him a ton of fun to watch.
Jamel Graves Jamel Graves 6'6" | SF Lawton Eisenhower | 2022 State OK | 2022 | 6’7” Power Forward | Team Buddy Buckets | Lawton HS – Graves is surrounded by gifted scorers, which leaves him to do the dirty work, a task he seems to embrace. He was constantly outworking opponents on the glass at both ends. His length and athleticism allow him to compete against and defend taller bigs in the post. Offensively, his touch on shots inside is solid. He can also throw it down with power when he gets deep in the paint. Graves has some skill to his game too, showing that he can stretch out and hit some mid-range elbow jumpers.
Daylon Andrews Daylon Andrews 5'10" | PG Pc West | 2021 State OK | 2021 | 5’11” Combo Guard | BTR 17U | Putnam City West HS – Andrews is a scoring guard who does a great job of balancing his duties as a scorer and as a playmaker. He can create for himself and his teammates. He is a superb three-point shooter with good range. He’s equally effective from the catch and off the dribble. He is an electric bucket getter when he gets things rolling, proving that he can get it done from all three levels on offense. His shiftiness as a ball handler makes it difficult for defenders to keep him in front of them, and he was continuously manipulating his opponents’ leverage with his dribble.
