After a long hiatus, getting back in the gym to see player I knew an didn’t know was refreshing as ever. It was well ran as always and took all of the safety precautions necessary to provide players a platform for exposure. Many of which have garnered new college interest or offers over the last 24 hours.
Let’s take a look at some of the players who saw their stock rise as a result of their efforts.
Jamai Felt | 6’9 | Team Choo ’21
Felt was clearly the biggest stock riser of the weekend. Coming in with no offers from any level, the 6-foot-9 southpaw forward received an offer from Chestnut Hill (DII) after a double overtime win against L&L Running Rebels. Shortly after that, SMU, Texas Southern and Towson extended offers as others started inquiring on Felt. He has intriguing size and length for his position. The fact that he’s a lefty makes him unique, but his skill set is particularly raw to this point. He may end up needing a redshirt year if there is no high school season to help with development. Either way, I see Felt being an intriguing long term prospect in the 2021 class.
Clarence Obiajulu Clarence Obiajulu 6'7" | C National Christian | 2021 State MD | 6’7 | Team Thrill ’21
Obiajulu caught the eyes of many scouts who were in attendance over the weekend. Not only is his brute size and strength a plus, but his explosive athleticism and knack for powerful rim-rattling dunks add his value. Although he isn’t ideal size as a center his physicality helps hold leverage against taller bigs. He rebounds with aggression, runs the floor well and communicates consistently in ball screen coverages. If I were a Division I low major program looking for a work horse that can fit in with pretty much any mix of players, Obiajulu is a guy that should be on your list.
Bobby Hill Bobby Hill 6'5" | PF Reservoir | 2021 State MD | 6’7 | Team STAT ’21
This weekend was the first time I got to see Hill in action in some time. After a slow start, Hill began showing why colleges from various levels are keeping tabs on him at Reservoir. The 6-foot-7 forward is a lefty that can score inside and out with a nice face-up game in the mid-post area. He’ll still need to put on some muscle for the collegiate level, but I liked how he crashed the glass on the defensive end. This Team STAT squad is undersized so they rely on Hill as a rebounder and shot blocker, which he willingly did.
Elijah Kennedy | 6’4 | Boo Williams ’21
Kennedy was included as a standout guard from this event, but his performances made noise that should give a boost in his stock. The lefty off-ball guard looked to be a proved shot maker from three off the catch with ability to create his own looks off the bounce from 12-to-17 feet. Even though he brings a scorer’s mentality he does it with an efficient approach by getting his shots in rhythm. He also made sound advance passes in transition to teammates for quick lay ups.
Nate Grcyka | 6’4 | House We Built ’21
Grcyka was also included as a standout guard for his performance against a tough Boo Williams team. The 6-foot-4 guard plays with a toughness and edge that any coach would love. He made shots from outside with range, utilized his dribbles in an efficient manner and competed hard on the defensive end.
Tony Felder Jr. | 5’9 | Team Spartans ’22
Felder caught my eye because of his toughness and confidence he plays with at the point guard position. Although he’s smaller, Felder finished creatively around the rim to avoid the defender’s outreached arms and also made it a point to take advantage of their standout 7-footer in 2022 Donovan Clingan. He mixed it up well with his approach and supplied consistent ball pressure as a defender.
Solomon Ball | 6’1 | Global Squad ’23
Ball impressed with his overall IQ and feel for the game as a combo guard. He led Global Squad to a nice win over Team Thrill 16’s behind his performance and most importantly, his seven points in the last minute of play to seal the game. Ball is a 6-foot-1 lefty who can make plays off the bounce, showcased a smooth jumper from three and potential to be a solid prospect who will now be attending St. James in Maryland.
Jevin Muniz | 6’5 | L&L Running Rebels
Muniz had quite the showing despite his team coming up short against Team Choo in double overtime. The 6-foot-5 wing also shared duties of bringing the ball up the floor and made some impressive reads as a distributor. His presence was felt most as a knockdown shooter from three. It didn’t matter if it was off the catch or off the dribble, Muniz was making the defense pay for an inch of daylight. He also made an impact in the rebounding department, which capped off an overall solid outing individually.
