North Jersey normally rules the basketball roost in the Garden State, but South Jersey basketball is full of big-time talent. Camden was the top team in the state for most of the season as the Panthers won 25 straight games to end the season. Paul VI, Camden Catholic and St. Augustine are all solid squads with Division I players. South Jersey is filled with talented guard prospects who are ready to make an impact on the next level. Here are the top combo guards in South Jersey.

[player_tooltip player_id="850751" first="Dajuan" last="Wagner Jr"]., 6’3 Camden 2023

ESPN may have labeled him as a point guard, but [player_tooltip player_id="850757" first="Cian" last="Medley"]’s presence in the backcourt makes Wagner Jr. more of a combo guard. The 6’3 guard is a natural scorer who can score at all three levels. Wagner Jr. has a good handle and plays with composure with the ball in his hands. He is a tough rebounder and is capable of running an offense. The Panthers will be one of the teams to beat again in 2020-21 with Wagner Jr. returning for his sophomore season.

[player_tooltip player_id="850529" first="Wisler" last="Sanon"], 6’2 Paul VI 2021

The Eagles have been one of the top teams in Non-Public A South over the last two seasons and are looking to take home the title this season. Sanon has been an integral part to his team’s success due to his ability to lock-down defenders. The NJIT commit is a gritty defender who can defend three positions on the floor. Sanon is at his best attacking the basket, but is also capable of knocking down shots from the perimeter. Paul VI is hungry for a sectional title with Sanon in the backcourt.

[player_tooltip player_id="850548" first="Freddie" last="Young"], 6’3 Trenton Catholic 2021

Young will be a point guard at the next level, but has played off the ball for Trenton Catholic in 2019-20. The 6’3 guard has a good handle and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Young can shoot the ball from deep and has a nice release on his shot. He is also a solid defender capable of defending the ball full court. Trenton Catholic has to replace VCU commit [player_tooltip player_id="850324" first="Jamir" last="Watkins"]’ scoring, but Young is ready to be the go-to guy in 2020-21.

[player_tooltip player_id="900319" first="DaSean" last="Lopez"], 6’3 Wildwood Catholic Academy 2021

The Crusaders took home the Non-Public B South title, but they must replace All-State performers [player_tooltip player_id="766090" first="Taj" last="Thweatt"] and [player_tooltip player_id="896442" first="Jahlil" last="White"]. Lopez is a tough defender who plays with quick hands and good instincts. The 6’3 guard has a good handle and knows how to play within an offense. Lopez moves well off the ball and can finish around the basket. Wildwood Catholic Academy needs Lopez to be a more dominant scorer in 2020-21 for the Crusaders to repeat as champions.

[player_tooltip player_id="900329" first="Marcus" last="Pierce"], 6’1 St. Joseph’s Hammonton 2021

St. Joseph’s Hammonton has shut down its doors, but that does not take away from Pierce’s talent on the hardwood. The 6’1 guard is hard to keep out of the lane and excels at drawing contact. Pierce is not just a slasher as he is capable of knocking down shots from behind the arc. He is an underrated passer and strong on-ball defender. Pierce will make his next coach very happy due to his combination of talent, toughness and athleticism.
