Re-Ranking the 2017 Class (Part 5)
We’ve been thrown a curveball this summer. Due to social distancing guidelines, opportunities to comprehensively evaluate prospects in and around the DMV area have been few and far between. As a result, we will not be providing a mid-summer rankings update as we typically do.
But to be creative and keep content flowing consistently, the team is excited to take a look back at the 2017 and 2018 rankings. Our aim is to re-rank notable prospects in those respective classes based on their performances since high school and ultimately come up with a new top-30 for each.
Here we resume this series by taking a closer look at #6-10 from the new 2017 update.
#10 | Ryan Allen, 6’2″ PG | DeMatha | Original Rank: #20 | College: Delaware
Wilson: I always thought Delaware got a steal in Allen when he committed. Allen played alongside and against high major prospects during his time at DeMatha and I think that has helped him drastically during his time in the CAA. He has been averaging at least 15 points through his first three seasons with the Blue Hens and enters his senior year as a serious conference player of the year candidate.

#9 | Deion Hammond, 6’4″ SG | Riverdale Baptist | Original Rank: #38 | College: Monmouth
Ayalew: It did not take long for Riverdale Baptist standout Deion Hammond to make an impact at Monmouth. As a freshman, he was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team as a unanimous selection. Hammond is coming off a junior season in which he was named All-MAAC First Team. The skilled 6-foot-4 swingman led his team in scoring at 16.3 points per game, threes made with 82, and field goals made with 174.
1⃣0⃣0⃣0⃣ comes fittingly on a 3⃣‼️

#8 | De’Vondre Perry, 6’7″ F | Poly | Original Rank: #4 | College: Temple
Giacubeno: Dre Perry had one of the most dominant state championships runs I’ve seen averaging 27 points and 12 rebounds that led the Engineers to their first state title and ultimately was the catalyst for the powerhouse program that they’ve become. While it took time for Perry to find his niche at Temple, he’s primed for a senior season that includes more responsibility. It’ll be interesting to see if he can step up and produce at a high-level and become a staple for the Owls in 2020-21.

#7 | Manny Camper, 6’7″ F | Kent County | Original Rank: #45 | College: Siena
Giacubeno: It seems like regularly we see a prospect emerge from the Eastern Shore area who can score in bunches. Camper fits that mold by scoring over 1900 points in his high school career and has made himself into a valuable college player. The 6-foot-7 wing started every game and averaged a double-double of 13.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for Siena in 2019-20.
#6 | Josh Carlton, 6’11” C | DeMatha | Original Rank: #6 | College: UCONN
Wilson: Carlton is another DeMatha graduate that I thought was underrated during his time in high school. Carlton is a strong low post presence that can make a difference on both ends of the floor. Ever since his time with the Huskies he has been a constant contributor on offense and a strong rebounder on both sides of the ball.
