[player_tooltip player_id="904678" first="Ifanieye" last="Lewis"], a class of 2022 point guard from Eleanor Roosevelt, has been putting in work this offseason in anticipation of a much bigger role in the future. [player_tooltip player_id="900219" first="Olumide" last="Lewis"], his older brother, was the team’s starting point guard last season but is headed off to college. Fani understands how important his role will be moving forward.

“I’m going to be the leader,” he told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “For varsity starting point guard, I have to get ready to run the team.”

A self-proclaimed hustle player, Lewis prides himself on playing hard every time takes the court. Like his brother, he is relatively undersized but knows how to use that to his advantage.

“He puts work in off the court that nobody sees,” Lewis said of his older brother. “And it shows on the court. Being smaller is not a disadvantage for him because he makes up for it on the court.”

Lewis is known for his defense and playmaking ability with the ball but has a sneaky-good offensive game that he’s been refining during social distancing. Shooting is one area of focus for his improvement.

“I’m working on my shooting, a lot. Shooting from different situations. Pull-ups, catch-and-shoot. A lot of that,” he said. “I also have to get stronger, get my weight up. That and more shooting, more ball handling. Everything.”

One goal that Lewis has set is to win a state championship before his high school career is over. He understands that to achieve that goal, he will have to focus on one game at a time. Nevertheless, Lewis is continuously working and could become a household name in the DMV very soon.
