Continue ReadingAfter a brief hiatus, the Maryland/D.C. recruiting report returns. While the nation has seen an explosion in 2021 prospects making their commitments, announcements as such are still on the quiet end here in MD/DC. A couple of noteworthy prospects made their pledges however, as well as others receiving offers from high major programs.
Let’s dive in.
COMMITMENTS
2021 Maret wing Quincy Allen Quincy Allen 6'7" | SF Maret | 2021 State #125 Nation MD announced his commitment to Colorado. Allen is regarded as a top-50 player nationally in the 2021 class as the 6-foot-7 wing brings athleticism and a three-level scorer to the Buffaloes. Allen held 16 total offers before making his commitment and should be an intriguing prospect in a Colorado program that has had success in developing players for the professional ranks.
2021 Bishop McNamara forward Terrence Butler Terrence Butler 6'7" | PF Bishop McNamara | 2021 State MD Jr. committed to Drexel. Butler has the makings of being a productive college player for the Dragons as he brings size, physicality and versatility at 6-foot-7. The southpaw can score consistently from the high-post area and in as well as make sound decisions as a passer out on the perimeter.
OFFERS
2021 DeMatha guard Jordan Hawkins Jordan Hawkins 6'5" | SF DeMatha | 2021 State #41 Nation MD received an offer from Notre Dame. Now up to 17 total offers, Hawkins’ list is comprised mostly of high-major programs. The 6-foot-5 dynamic scorer hasn’t been outspoken on when he will look to make a decision or cut his list.
2021 IMG Academy guard Brandon Murray Brandon Murray 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2021 #220 Nation FL has picked up offers from LSU and VCU. The former Poly standout dominated Big Shots Nationals by averaging over 31 points per game, which further confirmed to programs nationally that he is a special prospect. Look for his stock to continue to rise.
2021 Bishop Walsh point guard Jalen Miller Jalen Miller 6'2" | PG Bishop Walsh | 2021 State #151 Nation MD has received offers from James Madison and UNC-Greensboro. The floor general continues to add to his list of schools As many prospects prefer, Miller would like to make visits before making a final decision. The COVID-19 restrictions progressively make that perspective unpredictable, but Miller laid out what he is looking for in schools when I caught up with him earlier in the summer.
Georgetown extended offers to a few incoming freshman in the DMV area and 2024 St. John’s (DC) wing Donovan Freeman was one of them. I have not yet seen Freeman, but from what I’ve researched he has nice size and length at 6-foot-5. He’s a defensive disruption with an offensive game that has developed rapidly over the last calendar year.
Other news
Former Georgetown Prep point guard Zion Russell announced that he will relcass to 2022. He spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy where he will remain while relcassing. Russell is an electric scorer who has the potential to be an intriguing prospect for mid-major programs. Reclassing into 2022 should result in an immediate boost for his recruitment, but schools may likely hold off on officially offering until he’s in a Hargrave uniform.
