The gist of the program was this: I offered to review a prospect’s full game film and provide a detailed scouting report on that player’s strengths and weaknesses, along with some workout tools developed by a friend and trainer.
The idea quickly took off and as my email inbox filled with submissions from across the country, I thought it would be great to highlight some of those players on the Prep Hoops platform, as well. So, here are a handful of 2021 prospects I reviewed over the last few months.
Ian Jones, Sonora – I really liked Jones’ three-point shooting ability combined with his aggressive and fundamental on-ball defense. In the film viewed, the 6-foot-1 guard checked the opponents best offensive player and made his assignment work for every scoring opportunity he got. Jones brings a toughness and physicality to the floor that allow him to absorb and finish through contact and rebound well for his size.
Luke Turner Luke Turner 6'8" | SG Santa Margarita Catholic | 2021 State CA-S , Santa Margarita – The rangy 6-foot-7 wing will make the move from Rancho Christian of Temecula to South Orange County for his senior year. Turner is one of the better floor stretching wings in SoCal with his smooth catch and shoot ability at his size. Turner has improved his feel off the bounce a bit over the last few seasons, but still needs to tighten up his ball skills and finish around the basket better.
Ethan Park, Chadwick – Park has really good burst off the bounce in the open floor and out of triple threat situations in the half-court setting. His speed and quickness allow him to get paint touches where he can either create a shot for his teammate or finish better than his size leads you to believe. Defensively, Park excels in playing passing lanes as his anticipation and quick reaction time helps him jump lanes for steals leading to transition opportunities.
Myles Bennett, San Diego – Bennett is the ultimate glue guy at the high school level because of his energy, toughness and willingness to do the little things. The 5-foot-11 guard has good length, lateral speed and vertical athleticism which allow him to guard multiple positions and rebound well for his size and position. Offensively, Bennett is best off the ball as a slasher and finisher who cleans up second chance opportunities.
