In these times, every event becomes a valuable opportunity for players to showcase their skills. This weekend is no exception, as West Coast scouting legend Gerry Freitas host his exposure camp in Phoenix, Arizona. The two day event will feature drills, games and attendance by some of the top talent evaluators on the west coast. In this article PH takes a look at some of the top Nevada players in attendance.
Mason Mich’l Mason Mich’l 6'7" | PF Desert Oasis | 2021 State NV 6’7 PF Nevada Hard 2 Guard 2021 (#42PHN 2021) – Mich’l’s frame will garner attention, his skill set just may raise eyebrows. The stretch 4 combines a European style perimeter game with raw athleticism. He has a feathery outside touch, and attacks the rim with reckless abandon. His size alone puts him under a microscope, a good performance will certainly generate some buzz.
Jack Ferrence 5’11 PG Out Train The Game 2022 – Ferrence is a Jack of all trades. The PG falls into the great at none, good at every category. He rebounds, defends and can finish in traffic. A guy who his coach describes as “A glue guy that can do a little more” Ferrence is a tireless worker looking to show off his improved ballhandling ability.
Christian Ware 6’2 SG Out Train The Game 2022 – We may have a sleeper on our hands in Ware. The gangly wing has undergone a recent growth spurt transforming him from a 5’10 JV player for SLAM into an intriguing 6’2 wing prospect. He wears a size 14 shoe, is only 15 years old and according to his AAU coach is “All arms and legs” The smooth shooter has a chance to be one of the more under the radar prospects to emerge.
Damion Byrd Damion Byrd 5'10" | PG Silverado | 2022 State NV 5’11 PG Out Train The Game 2022 (#10PHN 2022) (featured image) – I’ll be getting my first look at Byrd in a while. A quiet assassin with a high basketball IQ. He’s a pass first guy that in the past had shown reluctance to shoot from the outside. This setting is perfect for him. He’s a rare type of kid that’s at times almost to unselfish. however he should have the ball in his hands quite a bit giving him the opportunity to showcase his driving and playmaking ability.
Shane Thomas Shane Thomas 6'3" | SG Durango | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Las Vegas Knicks 2022 (#6PHN 2022) – Thomas is an intriguing prospect with perceptions ranging everywhere about what level he’ll wind up. While I can’t answer that question yet, what I can tell you is that he a quick twitch athlete that can shoot the lights out and holds an offer from a D1 school. I feel like success in camp setting is a lot about pure talent, and Thomas has that. Can he separate himself from the rest of the competitors at the event?
