There were plenty of diaper dandies that logged significant minutes for their respective teams and witnessed steady growth as they gained experience. We move onto the wings and forwards of this class who stood out this past season on the varsity level.

1. Kwame Evans Kwame Evans 6'9" | SF Montverde | 2023 State #20 Nation FL | 6’8 | Poly
Evans is arguably the top freshman locally in the 2023 class. At 6-foot-8 with elite length, he showcased a deadly three-point shot as the lefty played a ton of minutes for the nationally ranked Engineers. Evans looked extremely comfortable in Poly’s upset win over IMG Academy recording 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the effort. Throughout the season he hinted his versatility off the bounce as well and became a consistent defensive rebounder who could push the tempo himself. While there’s an argument for whether or not he’s the top player locally at this point, there’s little doubt that he has the highest ceiling of the group.
2. Jayden Baker | 6’4 | Parkville
Baker started and produced for a Parkville team that was 22-3 with eyes set on the Class 4A Final Four before the season was cancelled. A 6-foot-4 wing, Baker was a consistent shot-maker from mid-range and three for the Knights. He played with a strong motor and competitiveness on the defensive end while crashing the glass. Expect Baker to take a big step heading into his sophomore campaign and become more of a staple for Parkville moving forward.
3. Karim Harris Karim Harris 6'2" | SF Rosedale Christian | 2023 State MD | 6’3 | Calvert Hall
Harris is certainly undersized for his position at this point, but he showed a great willingness of being a utility player for Calvert Hall. The Cardinals were one of the youngest teams in the area, so having a player as young as Harris buy into doing the dirty work says a lot about his approach and overall character. He averaged 7.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.
4. Julien Moutome Julien Moutome 6'3" | SG Mount St. Joseph | 2023 MD | 6’3 | Mount St. Joseph
Moutome is another undersized wing/forward who did many things that wouldn’t show up on the box score. While he didn’t log a ton of minutes for the Gaels in his freshman season, Moutome did take advantage when he saw opportunities come his way. He was a determined rebounder, an effective screen-setter and was efficient with his looks at the basket. Considering the way head coach Pat Clatchey and his staff develop players, Moutome is one that will likely move up this list significantly when it’s all said and done.
5. Ian Robinson Ian Robinson 6'6" | C McDonogh | 2023 State MD | 6’6 | McDonogh
Robinson split time his freshman season between the varsity and junior varsity level. Due to the injury bug, he finished the back end of the schedule on varsity and contributed respectable minutes off the bench. A 6-foot-6 forward who is still growing into his body, Robinson showed potential to be a good energy guy in the frontcourt. He’s active in the paint when shots go up and is willing to run the floor in transition. Developing a more potent offensive skill-set will be vital for Robinson in the future, but judging from last season alone he’ll be a solid prospect who can rebound and distort shots around the rim.
